Popular Post DeanB Posted June 7, 2024 Popular Post Posted June 7, 2024 Don't listen to Dunc! He needs servo brakes as he doesn't have the leg strength 🤣😁 He's right about Paul though 👍 1 1 Quote

Thank you Hi Alan, I'm the one mentioned in your thread regarding the 1.6 Club Racer. There is also an S3 S Club Racer which has the supercharged Toyota engine. Is it the 1.6 Club Racer you are looking at? If it is you'd be more than welcome to come and have a look. It's my 1st Elise so I can't really comment about what the different power outputs are like to drive relative to each other. Note: It's also the quickest car I've owned. I wanted the S3 rather than the earlier Elise purely because I preferred the looks, so just a personal preference. I do most of my Elise driving around the Peak District without a passenger and I can confidently say it's a brilliant car. On a spirited run with other Lotus I have no problem with the performance, however I'm keeping the revs high. Below 3500 revs it doesn't have that much grunt, but if you let it rev it's plenty quick enough. It you want a real kick in the back from the get go then you might want one with more power. I was lucky enough to drive an S1 Elise with the K series engine for a couple of hours recently, and that picked up at low revs better than mine. However I'd still choose mine between the two. Quote
AlanG Posted June 7, 2024 Author Posted June 7, 2024 Thank Paul. It is the Club Racer that you have as opposed to the supercharger version, I have seen and have an interest in. I may be about to miss out on it, as someone else is keen, whereas I am still exploring the options. Are you based near the Peak District? Some first hand advice would be good. Quote
richbk Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 (edited) Hi Alan . welcome to MLOC , some great people and knowledge on the forum , all with difference experience and preference . I would say get behind the wheel of as many as you can before you buy . They are all great cars so which ever way you go I am sure you will have a fab experience. i have been lucky enough to own an early s2 Elise with the K series engine, a Toyota engined Na exige ( still in the fold) and more recently a standard S1 Elise . Bought and restored alongside my son . I love them all and each felt different and had their own pro’s and con’s . Although at the moment when weather allows I am loving the S1Elise for its pure driving experience on our local b roads can you give us a bit more info so we can advise , suggest , quantify what might be the best option ? what have you owned / driven before ? what do you envision using the car for , weekend blasts , road trips, track days , polishing and keeping the the garage , how old / flexible are you? where are you based , local road types why the s2 Elise as preference good luck with the search , speak soon Richard Edited June 8, 2024 by richbk Quote

Hi Alan, Yes, I'm in the Peak District at Litton, and you'd be welcome to have a run out in the Elise. I'm out on the run tomorrow from Ashbourne so I'll be at Hassop Station cafe at 9:30 if you were at a loose end. Quote

AlanG Posted June 13, 2024 Author Posted June 13, 2024 Good morning I am sorry to ask another question but…, what are your thoughts on owners servicing and changing the fluids on their Elise? I fear this poses a risk. Quote
winthattt Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Keep the receipts to show it has been done for new buyers, you can take pictures (which have date and time). They are very simple cars for basic work and fluids (engine, brake) and plugs are easy. S2 cars with ABS can be a pain to bleed the brakes and need a scan tool. I used to do all my own work but these days I get Gavin at Unit 4 to do it with the MoT. Mainly because he is better than me and has a lift and years of experience. Quote

AlanG Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 Hi sorry again for asking questions to you all. My search for an Elise has taken another turn. Could anyone help me value a car I have seen? It is a 111R. Can share my details if anyone can help. I am not sure if the seller is on this board and do not want to cause any offence. thank you Quote

I fear this poses a risk. Im considering this for mine. Im inclined to do main fluids, filter, plugs etc myself, keep the receipts, and do a comprehensive Lotus Service Sheet each time.(You can get a PDF file with the Service Sheets) Many garage stamps dont actually give details of what they have done. Any more complex jobs, I would probably look at a specialist, but changing oil and plugs is no specialist job! Quote
AlanG Posted August 22, 2024 Author Posted August 22, 2024 Hi (again) I am still seeking the right Elise to buy. Last night I test drove a nice 111S but sometime did not feel right about the gear change. Does anyone live in or around Chesterfield? Ideally I would like to see what the right gear change looks like. I can only describe the gear change as floppy. Gear selection was not easy and there seemed to be a lot of play. thank you Quote
