Elisemadray
Hi All, Theo Clive's son has asked the following. any ideas? Hi Ray, hope you’re well! Got a little query, trying to get my Dads car on the road but hit a few obstacles. Couple of which have been sorted however such as dipped lights not being able to turn off and the radio not working but are still struggling to get the rear fog lights to operate fuses have been checked and they’re working. But on starting the car the battery isn’t charging which is leading to the alternator? Have you had any problems with yours at all? Or know anyone in the group that may have one? Badger02
Regarding the battery /alternator I'd disconnect the battery earth cable where it connects to the chassis, give the terminal a good clean then reattach. then do the same with the cable connections on the battery. then go through the same process for any other earth cable. Failing that it could be a duff battery or alternator especially if the car has not been run for some time.

Thanks Badger I will pass that on
Daveb99
This sounds like the alternator is on the way out. I’ve had a similar thing on a previous S1 that I owned, and it causes all sorts of weird electrical issues sometimes. The failure is often caused by overheating due to the location of it - the regulator fails prematurely. If you’re replacing it, it’s a good idea to make sure it has a good cold air feed from the side intake, and a heat shield between it and the exhaust manifold.
