mneil Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 been thinking of maybe going down the supercharged route to get better low down torque than my Elise R. would like to hear comments from owners of Elise SC s and especially anyone in the possession of the new lower revving supercharged Elise S as comparisons, also a big niggle for me is the constant whine of certain superchargers ie, the ones fitted to the Cooper S (would drive me mad!); is there any noticeable/comparable whine on the Elise superchargers? thanks for any replies.
scatty Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 im guessing you wont get away from the whine of the supercharger...but i may be wrong. any vid clip ive seen of an s it has been very noticable....
flibberflops Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 You don't like the sound of the blower?
MrSimba Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Had an SC (Elise & Exige) and I know I'm going to get flamed here but the complete lack of torque just killed it for me The whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine is only noticeable above about 6k rpm - I had TRD airboxs on both tho & that does increase the whine but it would be about the same as a Cooper S 158ft lb just didn't give me the 'kick' I'd been used to coming from Turbo charged cars so sold it and bought a 'less road friendly' but much more fun VX Turbo with 300bhp / 360 ft lb (all at 2500rpm) Very very noisy but very very quick! *edit* I see your in Sutton same as me if you want a spin out in it let me know!
noddy Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 The supercharger whine only comes in when you are booting it, the big problem us that you will keep booting it just to hear the supercharger whine! I have a few vids if you search for noddyR400 on YouTube :-)
lummo Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 been thinking of maybe going down the supercharged route to get better low down torque than my Elise R... You've only just bought it and you already want to upgrade!!! Some people are never satisfied (I told you before you bought it that you should get an S1...)
Steve J Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I like the whine of a supercharger, though most of the noise in mine comes from induction whistle as it goes through the ali intake tube. I'll look out for your car, as my parents still live in Boldmere.

I have an 06 Elise 111R with the BOE Rev 400 kit and 2 weeks ago ran a 12.1 sec Qtr mile with a five speed gearbox. Absolutely tons of torque there and no supercharger whine at all. So it can be done and I drive it daily to work etc
mneil Posted January 10, 2012 Author Posted January 10, 2012 Mr Simba glad you enjoy the turbo kick , love it too, but not the front wheel drive as i presume it must be if its a VX saloon and not the VX220 turbo. Lummo suppose the more you have , the more you want
MrSimba Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 Mr Simba glad you enjoy the turbo kick , love it too, but not the front wheel drive as i presume it must be if its a VX saloon and not the VX220 turbo. Nope... VX220 Turbo with 300bhp / 360ftlb When Steve Guglielimi geo'd it after he test drove it he remarked 'its the best one we've seen' to put it in context his carbon bodied audi engined time attack car has only 10ftlb more... Stevie G was very impressed! I sold the Elise SC and bought the VX for exactly half what I recieved for the Elise, since then have added Nitron 46 'race pro' shocks better brakes, 4 channel ABS and its a riot to drive 0-100 in 7.5 seconds is rather quick!!! I know the VX is 'marmite' but there is nothing to touch it's performance for your £££'s
scatty Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 ooooo lordy. i look forward to a little passenger ride in that.... i do miss my 450 bhp scoob, nothing beats the tug of a turbo, but then i look out of the window and see the green goddess and 190 bhp seems kind of ok..... but 360 ft/lbs in a tin can must be mental.......like it....
MrSimba Posted January 10, 2012 Posted January 10, 2012 (scatty does a little dance) Lol! See you on the 22nd!
lummo Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 but 360 ft/lbs in a tin can must be mental.......like it.... 360 ft/lbs in a plastic lego brick surely? Seriously, it is a very, very nice car.
