The Kippo Kid
Hi all, My first post on here. I usually kick around SELOC as I now live darn souf but I'm originally from Wolves and come back a fair bit to visit the folks so I thought I'd see if my follow midlanders could help.... I've got an S2 111S (S1 owners insert poof joke here). I'm after a sports exhaust but not one that will make my ears bleed I have got it down to a short list of: - Bell & Colville - Larini - Janspeed You've got some good exhaust info on here but I couldn't find much on the B&C. Anyone got one? Or sound clips? Also, I spoke to Paul Matty's today and they said they have one made. Anyone got any experience of this exhaust? Are there any other specialists in the Midlands that come highly recommended for me to talk to? One last question. How do I get one of those MLOC car stickers? The lot down here will really hate it if I turn up with one of those. I have to have one! Peace and solidarity my midland lotus driving brothers Rich
Martin R
Welcome to MLOC. Ive got an S1 with a Janspeed on. Its a nice sound and not too loud. I did put a decat pipe on last week. That made it very loud and boomy, it had to come back off it was way OTT. Im sure some of the S2 guys and girls will be along to put you right. The Kippo Kid
Thanks Martin. Have heard the Janspeed on my friends S1 and it sounds sweet. I suspect that the others have a tinnier sound which may be more up my street. De-cat is out as I have a massive paranoia that the officers of the state are waiting for the first opportunity to nail me. If I don't make a decision soon I'm going to remove my exhaust and beat myself to death with it.
Steve J
Dave111s has a Janspeed which sound nice. With a decat pipe he thought it was too loud though. Janspeed or Larini depending on budget IMHO.

Gaz_R
Also have a Janspeed. Sounds just right buit fantastic with roof off. If you want to go that step further just take out Cat (makes no difference to a K Series intake by the way) Beefcake - Got the stickers through cheers. Fiona
Just to throuw another one into the hat - I have the Magnex (it's the Lotus supplied one). High quality noise with no hint of tinniness.
daves2111s
As Steve said I went the Janspeed route and have not regretted it The decat was a bit much for me...getting old probably has something to do with it The Janspeed for me complements the K series so well. It doesn't make it sound like a TVR but like a highly tuned small car that it is. When the K is at 5-6k it's quite sensational and the Janspeed compliments and amplifies it perfectly IMHO Just makes you want to push it when ever you can By the way it will wreck your mpg just because of pointless throttle blipping and second/third gear limiter light flashing but what the hell that's what the car is for Go for the Hurricane too IMHO it does improve the top end response although you won't hear it over the zorst (check the pickys on my garage) Dave
Loafing Wafu
Had the same dilemma a few weeks ago, but i eventually went for the Janspeed. Cost and availability were my main reasons. I really just wanted to get one straight away and not wait for it to be made. Don't regret it one bit, it sounds awesome. My car originally had a B&C system on it before i bought it, but the previous owner took it off and sold it seperately. It sounded brilliant as well. Can't comment on the larini never seen or heard one. Have fun deciding.
JimmyMac
Not to sound too patronising as i'm only a new lad, but have you considered a custom build exhaust system? On my current car i went for that choice and have a removable CAT section that can be replaced by myself at anytime i.e for MOT purposes. That way you can specify style and also sound if neccessary but obviously it will be a few more £££'s than stock systems. Just my 2p's worth
The Kippo Kid
Good point Jimmy. Believe me, I've looked at everything. A company down here called Hayward & Scott come highly recommended for custom exhausts on Scoobies. It's an option but not one I think I'm going to take. I even looked at the £1000+ Tubi Style and Yoshimura/Kawahara systems. I just can't justify the expense though when I can get 90% of the product for 40% of the expense. I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure. I've heard really good things about the Larini but also that it's not easy to adjust and with the Elise being handmade the pipes don't always line up with the grill/diffuser. Argh. I just need a good kicking.

Rich111s
Hi I'm considering a new one for my S2 111s too - think Im going to go for the Janspeed. Partly because of the recommendations from the guys here and the cost - I got a quote of £400 incl VAT and fitting from PTP in Hinkley... which I thought is reasonable... If you look on the PistonHeads.com site in the forum section under lotus elise and then go to search topics under larini in the last 6 months there is a link to a thread with a sound clip of a Larini... sounds OK but I still think the Janspeed's more to it So many choices but a Janspeed it will be for me! Good luck mate - let us know what you decide to do Rich
