Finally decided upon getting Nitrons fitted to my S2 Exige - next thing is to decide where to get them from and where to get them fitted? Anyone on here got them locally and had them fitted? I have had my car serviced at Guglielmi's previously (and had sterling service at a good price) although I am not sure if they would supply the parts etc? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Cheers

I bought my Nitrons from Hofmanns and Steve G fitted them and did a geo. Hofmann spec their Nitrons differently than standard. Different valving, longer rear shocks (more droop) and usually higher spring rates. They cost the same as normal Nitrons but they usually put Eibach springs on them so that's a bit extra.

Handling is amazing.

Thanks for the info - From my research it seems that the Hoffman Nitrons are a bit more track biased - is this not the case?

Yes they are but they are very good on the road.

I'm running massive spring rates of 550f and 750r with tender and helper springs and they are fine on the road. It's only really bumpy b roads where it feels unsettled. Call Hofmanns and have a chat - they are very helpful and will discuss your needs with you and recommend a spec.

Jonny,

Give Guy at Nitron a call.

Nitron will sell direct and you can run through with Guy exactly what you want and they will valve them accordingly. If you can't get there I'm sure they would ship them to Steve's for them to fit and geo for you as Guy knows Steve well. My dampers are in there at the moment for Nitron to build to my spec, getting them back on Friday.

Another thumbs here for the Hofmann's Nitrons. I had mine fitted and geo done at Hofmann's, but they will supply for fitting by others.

I explained to Chris that my car was now being used 50/50 road/track and he suggested 450lb front and 600lb rear a huge incraese over my standard 111R, apparently this is the maximum spring rate that does not require the use of helper springs. I was expecting the car to be much harsher on the road but was amazed that the ride comfort is now superior to standard with only potholes or raised ironwork troubling the car. On track the car is now much more stable than before with only minimal body roll. My car has been transformed and the result is far better than I could have hoped for. :notworthy:

Thanks for the replies guys, I think the best bet would be to speak to Nitron directly and have a word with Hoffmans too, then I will be in the best position to make an informed decision with all the facts. We are gradually getting all the kit together to do proper geo's on our Ultima racecar, so I will fit the shocks myself and do the geometry too, I have all the settings for various Lotus setups (340R, Exige standard, cup etc.) so will start with the standard settings and go from there.

Will keep you informed of how I get on. Now, all I need to do is cross my fingers for some decent weather to get them fitted and get out and enjoy them! :bye:

Definitely investigate the helper springs if you're going for such high rates... i had 400/500 on my S1 and mine were the first pair of Hoffmans ones and on bumpy roads they were awful, very bouncy and unnerving... on the right road though they were stunning.

So if you don't drive on track very often, don't go for such crazy spring rates as those mentioned above otherwise you're compromising your car for the majority of its work.

Oh and for my usual comment, i still rate Ohlins as a better road damper - certainly when comparing the ones i've been in.... but as said my Nitrons were far from ideal!

I had the Hoffmans dampers with 550/750 springs and found them to be very poor on bumpy B-roads, so went to Nitron and asked for some tweeks to the damper settings and it's now much better on the road, removes a lot of the B-Road bounce, unfortunately the weather is stopping further testing. I don't expect too much change on track but haven't had time to try it out yet.

Maybe you should call them the MarkA settings and start flogging those too then Mark as it seems i wasn't alone having read a few threads on SELOC....

This is interesting

I have read alot about different dampers over on seloc and Hoffmans spec Nitrons are always raved about.

Anyone have any experience of the eliseparts Quantum dampers

Eliseparts

At the moment i am thinking about fitting the Nitron street series as they seem to be a good compromise and are a little cheaper

Horizon offered me the Quantum ones ages ago and i'd never heard of them, turns out they're supposed to be rather good - there was a lengthy SELOC discussion on those also.

As for the Hoffmans ones, they are very good, but make sure you buy based on your needs and not what other people tell you you want.... if you don't track the car, don't fit 500lb springs!

Righty, I went for the standard Nitron one ways in the end. I have got them all fitted (not done the geo yet as it got dark); the ride is so much better its quite incredible. Defo recommend them, only done a few miles in them but certainly seems to be miles better than the OE stuff. Going to wait for them to bed in over this next week then re adjust everything at the weekend weather permitting. Bit odd though that it is nigh on impossible to alter the ride height with the dampers attached to the car because of the position of the adjustment collar (right next to the wishbone!) that's my only gripe so far.

However, one issue: I now have a very loooooong brake pedal, no idea why to be honest considering I haven't touched the brakes, if I pump them they become OK again but then go long as soon as I don't touch the pedal for a few seconds. Any ideas? Very odd IMO!?

If the pedal is long you either have air in the system or the pads are miles away from the discs. Did you remove the discs ?
