dannygt4smith Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Is there anyway to tell them apart visually? Should they have a 111 sticker anywhere? Anyway to tell if it is a actual 111?
Neil Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Dunno about stickers (althoug I'd've thought there'd be some) but the VVC has metal throttle body and inlet manifold so should be easy to check!
dannygt4smith Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 The one i seen was a 111 without the s, No stickers around the repeaters, and didnt feel all that quick.
Martin R Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 111 is an Elise. All Lotus cars have a factory model number. Edit, have a look at this it explains all the Lotus model numbers. http://www.eliseweb.com/elise/lotusmodels.htm
dannygt4smith Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 Sorry i ment a lower bhp version to a higher bhp 111(with out the s)
Matt C Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Sorry i ment a lower bhp version to a higher bhp 111(with out the s) I thought the 111 was a std 118bhp Elise. 111s is the VVC engine...143bhp.
dannygt4smith Posted July 6, 2007 Author Posted July 6, 2007 I thought they were both the same power but the s has better trim
JamesG Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I thought they were both the same power but the s has better trim That's right: http://www.elises.co.uk/models/ The 111 and 111s are both VVC cars, distinguished by different trim levels.
EMK Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I hate to disagree but here goes This is how i see it. S1 Elise 111 Standard Elise approx 120 BHP ( none VVC ) 111s Approx 140 BHP VVC stands for variable valve control 111 160 sport ( approx 150 BHP ) None VVC, ported head different manifold etc etc. 111 sport 190 VHPD engine ( very high power derivative ) Different bottom end etc etc. S2 Elise 111 as above 111s as above 190 Sport as above 111R Toyota engine approx 190 BHP They also have different trim levels wheels etc. Traditionally Lotus bring out a standard car and then bring out a sprint, which has a uprated engine etc etc. IE Lotus Elan, Lotus Elan Sprint. They for some reason changed to a 111 which is a standard Elise and called the sprint version a 111s HTH. Edit, this is Martin R and not Liz as its Friday night and ive been at the red stuff.
Steve J Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Not be be too controvercial, but I have a slightly different recollection (though not necessarily correct). S1: Standard Elise = 118bhp, normal box, no fancy stuff 135 Elise = 145 bhp (it made more than the advertised bhp, but Lotus kept quiet as they didn't want to annoy 111 owners), LSS suspension and some fancy paint 111 Elise = VVC 140bhp, CR box, some comfort extras (carpets?) 111s Elise = same as 111 but with a couple more interior comforty bits. Should have 111s stickers on the outside, spats on the rear arch edges, headlight covers, err leather? 160 Elise = 160bhp (I think it ranged between 150-160), different ECU, lumpy idle, more track tuned, LSS? 190 Elise = 190bhp (actually 170-180bhp), track oriented with LSS Exige 177 = VHPD 177bhp (more like 170bhp), EliseRacer copied clams, stiffer springed LSS, loads of other little bits aimed at track use Exige 192 = VHPD 190bhp (more like 180bhp), as above with a few engine bits removed (charcoal canister etc) and carbon air box S2 Kseries: Standard Elise = 120bhp, CR box, basic package Sports Tourer = 120bhp, CR box, leather seats, carpets, lumbar support, 4 speakers, aircon as option, passenger foot rest, and a few other bits RaceTech = 120 bhp, CR box, alcantara seats, chequerplate mats, 2 speakers, few other bits 135 = 135 bhp (actually about 145bhp again), CR box, 135 stickers on left of dash 135R = power as above, CR box, Bilstein LSS, OZ racing wheels, colour coded exterior plastic trim 111 = VVC 156bhp, standard box (longer gears for motorways), interior nice comfort bits 111s = as 111 with a few more nice interior bits 190 = VHPD 190bhp (actually about 180bhp), LSS, CR box etc S2 Toyota: Whole new set of engines and trim..... If you're looking at tuning an S1 111s then you'll get to about 160bhp with the VVC. If you want more you'll have to junk the VVC mechanism. Right, that's enough waffle from me now I hate to disagree but here goes This is how i see it. S1 Elise 111 Standard Elise approx 120 BHP ( none VVC ) 111s Approx 140 BHP VVC stands for variable valve control 111 160 sport ( approx 150 BHP ) None VVC, ported head different manifold etc etc. 111 sport 190 VHPD engine ( very high power derivative ) Different bottom end etc etc. S2 Elise 111 as above 111s as above 190 Sport as above 111R Toyota engine approx 190 BHP They also have different trim levels wheels etc. Traditionally Lotus bring out a standard car and then bring out a sprint, which has a uprated engine etc etc. IE Lotus Elan, Lotus Elan Sprint. fentuz Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Find this thread really confusing.... I always read about the S1 that the 111 was the standart one 118bhp the 111 S135 was powered by a prepared engine of nearly 145 bhp (only for UK market, emission issue)) the 111S was the evoltion of the s135 with a VVC engine (much better for emission)... it used the same upgrade as s135 and few extras: spoiler wheels are different. the 160 (from jan 2000) is powered as the s135 by prepared engine of 150 hp but tuneable to produce 160 (mg did a 160 too but it was the vvc with a different ecu). The 160S is a 160 that comes with the LSS, and racing style seats http://fentuz.ifrance.com/Elisemodelhistory.pdf
Steve J Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 That's about the same as I typed above. 111 is the Elise design number, the standard one just wasn't referred to as 111 S1: Standard - 118bhp 135 - ~ 145bhp 111/111s ~ 140bhp VVC 160 ~ 150bhp 190 ~ 180bhp VHPD
fentuz Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Agreed, Still don't understand the 111 only, I thought there was only the 111S. My book "Lotus Passion" published by Driver does not refer to 111 only but 111S That's about the same as I typed above. 111 is the Elise design number, the standard one just wasn't referred to as 111 S1: Standard - 118bhp 135 - ~ 145bhp 111/111s ~ 140bhp VVC 160 ~ 150bhp 190 ~ 180bhp VHPD
Martin R Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Now im sober, i agree with Fentuz I forgot the 135 last night.
