Hi all,

I am hoping to enter the world of lotus with my next car...Probably a 51 plated S2...

Now its gonna be an everyday car, so its gotta be 'usable' obviously...Do i need to get the sports tourer version?

I seen on www.whatcar.co.uk that average servicing costs are £3000 over 3 years, compared to my current £900 for my astra coupe turbo...

Are S2's reliable? Should i get an extended warranty...

And finally, insurance! what kinda money do u lot pay, where the best place, I got a quote from directline for £1100 (25yrs, 7yrs NCB, no pts, no claims)

Sorry for all the questions!

Please help... :)

Still quite high, although I am 31, married, garaged! (only when I am bad)

Most people get it down to high 700's or less

Although start around the 1000 mark.

I know some people recommend Elephant, but it looks like you are going to be in the same ballpark. Could be your postcode affecting you as well.

Good luck.

As for practical, I have an S1, a wife, baby and 2 other practical cars.....

Does that answer your question?! :)

Actually loads of people on here have them as an only ride, so if you are single

it shouldn't be a problem. Just be careful in the wet and get yourself a 1st lotus day

Quick, someone slap him, the mans delerious! (sp?)

As for insurance - sounds high to me. Try some of the Lotus specialists, like Esteem. Tried Elephant/Admiral?

Ive heard esteem are good too. they also dont ask silly questions about modifications (eg exhaust) and they do decent track day insurance for not too much money.

worth a call, i'd say

Obvious your insurance is too high because you just said beach buggy,

you may find this was a mistake! :chair::D

good luck with your hunt but I bet esteem dont want to touch you for the first year.

Or thats what they said to me, as most Elise accidents occur then. Be careful!

Welcome homerjay! I wouldn't start insulting half the members cars on the forth post! Beach Buggy? From someone who drives a shopping trolley with 2 baby seats in the back? lol :D

Not a good debate to start on here, this could run and run again....

Doh ! Don't start the S1 vs S2 thing again. [Whisper - just look at S1 135 review in EVO this month. Basically says the S2 is better ;-) ]

Hi Homerjay,

We have our 02 S2 ST insured with Admiral for £700 (me 35 with 7yrs NCD and wife 27 with 5yrs NCD), garaged, no tracker. Unfortunately they don't cover track days and don't like mods.

Good luck finding a nice car and affordable insurance.

Now not being one to bite about arguments between S1 and S2...

They didn't say that at all, if they had thought that, they'd have taken an S2, what they said was that the S2 improved the gearchange, brakes and damping... they preferred the overall drive of the S1 though!!!!

Welcome noob.... as soon as you admit that you prefer the S1, you'll be welcome, otherwise i shall have to be cautious about you... :D
