halfpenny Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 So after 20 months, 3 services, 5 sets of rear tyres, 1 set of front tyres, 2 DAB aerials, 3 drivers side windows, 3 sets of brake pads, and depreciation of £17k, the Exige is going. My last drive will be up the M1 this afternoon to a garage in Sheffield to pick up the new trusty, unglamerous steed.....
Steve J Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Bummer. So you got rid eventually? I assume no Porsche then
Fiona Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Steven, Sad to see the end of it. Are you picking up the orange Lambo in Winchester Cars?
Bramble111s Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Halfpenny, I have always looked at your Exige in the pic next your name and dreamed of one myself! Sorry to hear she's off. Crikey, how did you get through all those rear tyres? Can I ask how many track days you had, as those tyres alone are a substantial consumable! Is this ' normal ' for an Exige? At least you had your fun by the sounds of it! I remember my last Elise drive, although whilst sad I was on my way to Nick Whales, so I was pretty excited at the same time. Sorry to hear your new transport will not be a Liz....
malbon Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Ouch indeed ! Its painful to let a car go but its a great feeling picking up another. Is that you finished with Lotus ownership then Steven?
Greg.g Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 OUCH Come on..... what you getting??? Stop keeping us in suspenders
chris_h Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Is this ' normal ' for an Exige? I'm just about to get my 5th set of rears and second set of fronts after 24k miles My reg number is one different to Halfpennys. Hope to still see you around still Steve. Chris H
PeterField Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Sorry you've finally had to get rid Steven, and take such a hit on it. Hope you enjoy whatever you've switched to.
halfpenny Posted February 17, 2006 Author Posted February 17, 2006 Thanks all. Gone but not forgotten. I hope that I'll still be welcome to attend the odd pub meet and travel down to Le Mans with ya'll ! Brambles - As Chris said, this is normal for 48's. They wear very quickly and unfortunately for the mileage I'm doing (15k a year) new tyres every 5k is just too much. So, I'm licking my wounds, having to pay off the 9 grand negative equity - c'est la vie. Some on here say that this is expected or good for a car like Exige, or that you don't buy a car like Exige thinking about depreciation. However I simply couldn't afford. Now Lotus are doing away with the NA Toyota Exige with just supercharged cars to differenciate it from the 111R, I think there is still a little dropping to do. Yeah Jon - can't see me returning to Lotus ownership anytime soon ! As for the replacement.......a 3 year old Merc E270 diesel with more bells and whistles than a bell and whistle factory ! Now where did I leave my pipe and slippers....
Stevef Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 I assume that equates to a 17k part ex with a Merc dealer?.Surely you could have got low 20's as a quick private sale. I tried to px my last cerb against a 911 from a dealer for a 996 he offered me 13k I went onto get 19k from a independant tiv dealer up north a week later. This is a problem part exing against a different marque your gonna get shafted. I would assume the dealer who has your car will have sold it already to a Lotus dealer for cash ,be interesting to see where it appears and for how much. Anyway good luck it's not good for anybody to loose heart with such a good marque. Steve
