Timsrs Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Can I get peoples thoughts on this my lack of knowledge on models I thought this car would have had the Rover engine its a 2010 1.8S but has a supercharger fitted producing 218bhp cant seem to paste the link but looks a stunning car Quote
DeanB Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Hi Tim I've had a quick look at the ad. It is, I think, fitted with the supercharger originally by Lotus, it is not an aftermarket job. They stopped making Rover engined cars in 2004 I believe. The later Toyota engined cars with blowers are heavier than old Rover cars but they have a lot more power and torque, are better built and more suited to touring if you fancy the odd weekend away. I agree it looks stunning. If it's pulling at your heart strings and is in good nick go and buy it, a love affair will begin I'm sure! Obvs give it a good going over, check no chassis damage or corrosion (look at front wishbone mounts especially) and make sure the aircon works - don't be fobbed off if it doesn't because the air con pipes in the sills fail and it costs a fortune to replace them! Good luck Quote
Timsrs Posted June 27, 2025 Author Posted June 27, 2025 Thanks for the reply it does look a lovely car I’m not to bothered about the air con if I’m honest as I’ve hard they fail it says it’s had a rebuilt engine by Lotus Im going to call them to see why Quote
winthattt Posted June 28, 2025 Posted June 28, 2025 (edited) Dean is correct, check the aircon works as, even if you don’t care, buyers care. Looks very nice, I would not worry about the engine build if it’s running ok, it’s a Toyota. It has a hard top which I like. It does not have sports seats, no issue if you do not want to track it (harness fitting). Black is not the most visible, drive with the lights on. Get assurance that nothing is bent underneath and make sure it changes gear easily (if you change quickly 2/3 4/3 3/2). It’s annoying if the change is bulky. It looks very nice. AND, if has the 2zz engine and a super charger, rare and the best option, higher revs. The superchargers were offered as an aftermarket option, I had one, they work great but aftermarket has a bit less value than OEM, though they are the same! Eric Posted June 29, 2025 Posted June 29, 2025 This is actually an SC which is based on the 2ZZ engine but has a titchy integrated supercharger. It does boost peak power and torque but the engine still needs plenty of revs (aka a lot) to feel the difference. I did own an SC for several years and loved it, but the Elise S that replaced it (with 2ZR and discrete Magnuson supercharger) blows it out of the water. Quote
