Gear lever and centre console rubbing

Just had my first Lotus (an Elise 1.6 CR) for six weeks now and I've been sorting out a few jobs on it, one thing that is puzzling me is that when I select 5th or 6th gear the centre console cover is moving because the gear shift mechanism is fouling on it (I guess), do they all do this or can I adjust something to stop it?

Have you had a metal 'geargate' added or is it rubbing on the fibreglass tunnel itself? Could you post a piccy?

Hi Mutley00, no mods at all, not sure if its rubbing on the fibreglass or the whole frame is moving/flexing, I asked the tech at Silverstone lotus and he said it was common and nothing could be done.

I don't think mine does that, never noticed it anyway - I will check and post back on here

 

EDIT - Nope, no sign of movement in 5th or 6th, although I can make the console move a little if I push the stick right over to the left into reverse
