Swede
ok so ive had 2 weeks of thrashing car seems ok but sometimes ticks over far to low and can stall on rapid deceleration, so car is booked for checkover and dyno on monday car was advertised as s1 exige 192 brake upgrade sport exhaust (make unknown ) carbon air box question is what sort of figures should i be expecting so on monday i know wether to be happy or sad ps..... car now also needs a geom check cos of slight miscalculation on wet road has anyone got set up figures . ive got 10 bloody grands worth of computer wheel alignment system but no exige data aaaarrrrggghhhhh thanks
Scott_Mac
Hmm, 192bhp Exiges have been known to make as little as 165bhp May be worth a trip to Dave Walker at Emerald instead, get one fitted and get the car setup on the RR - Harry MEtcalfe from Evo did the same with his 340R and it made a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference! As for geo for an Exige, no idea to be honest - probably best posted on SELOC as someone on there will know the exact figures - Simon Scuffham a likely candidate. If you want to stick with the VHPD then an emerald an verniers can help as bad timing and fuelling is a problem on Exiges. Geo wise it depends what tyres you run and how you use the car ie do you do lots of track days? Depending on the answers to that I can help you out. Scott_Mac
Not great when they market a 192bhp conversion is it! I'd pop along to Emerald then, ok it may cost a bit but it'll be worth it!
PeterField
I am right in thinking that the rolling road measurement will be at the wheels, whereas Lotuses quoted figure will be at the fly wheel? If this is the case it'll explain a big difference between the two figures, when I had mine rolling roaded (by a guy I know and trust) I was told to expect to lose around 20bhp between the two figures. Just a thought, i'm no expert!

The figures quoted of 190 are at flywheel of a brand new engine on a block. Wear & tear will effect performance, I would be more interested in the torque figures anyway as opposed to a max bhp which you dont hit that much and when you do it's over with in an instant. Some say that you take off between 10-15% of the Flywheel figure, to get your 'at the wheels' figure. That'd only give you 146-155bhp at the wheels! I've always had my BHP measured at the Wheels (3yrs ago = 143 for my Mi'd GTi, not bad for a standard, old F reg engine! ), on the understanding that Flywheel figures are only accurate, if the engine is out of the vehicle. If it's in the car, it's a guesstimate. Which means (going by the 10-15% bit) my 143 at the wheels, would work out between 157-164bhp at the Flywheel, which is about right (Peugeot state it's 160bhp) But, if i were you, I get it RR'd at somewhere that measures the at the Wheels power, and if it comes up with a low figure then, throw some cash at it. Elaine. P.S I go here.
Chris_Exige
Of course 171bhp is shocking when Lotus claim 190bhp, I'm afraid it's perfectly normal though. So many bullshit horsefigures getting touted around by both specialists and manufacturers which is unfortunate for those honest engine builders who aren'twilling to play that game. PeterField
It goes without saying that it's all rather objective as to how accurate the RR is as well, as no two will give the same figures. When I had mine done it was at the wheels, 176bhp IIRC, making it over 190bhp at the fly wheel, so I was happy enough that i'd got what i'd paid for! That's why I use John Wilcox, theirs is calibrated very regularly.

Scott_Mac
The timing etc as standard on the VHPD is pretty shocking, i can't remember which issue it was in, but the 340R from Evo, was similarly crap... after a day with Dave Walker at Emerald, it was making just over 200bhp (IIRC) and had massively improved driveability and fuel economy
