Neil Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Right, we have a little bit of an issue. Last time we did this run we stopped at the Holly Bush Inn in Priors Marston for a lunch time baguette. I re-ran the 1st half of the route today to check the notes then stopped off in the pub and there is no way we are going to get 40+ cars in there. Also, they don't have a snack menu on Sundays, just Sunday lunch - and I'm pretty sure most people won't want a belly full of roast beef bouncing around all afternoon. I spoke to the chap who owns the place and he wasn't too keen for a load of people to turn up and fill his car park only to have a coke and a sandwich. So, plan B? I did do some scouting around to see what other options there were and I'm struggling. There is a pub in Daventry (Queen of Hearts) that has a big enough car park (probably), but it's all big meals again, no snack menu. The other option is a picnic / BBQ in Daventry Country Park. There is a big enough car park for everyone but it means either everyone has to take some food with them or someone has to go ahead to set something up (BBQ?). This could be OK, but if the weather is crap it's not going to work too well. I'm going to have to hand this over to the MLOC masses. We need somewhere suitable to stop for lunch somewhere along the section shown below. I'm guessing that Daventry would be our best bet. I did check out the McDonalds, but the car park has a grand total of 14 car parking spaces! I've got the notes for morning half of the run updated, once the lunch stop is figured out I can update the afternoon notes and the maps. Can I plead for someone to take this one please - I've not got that much free time as it is, and Daventry is too far for me to nip over and suss out a lunch stop, especially for a run that I won't be participating in! So, does anyone have any ideas for a lunch stop off point big enough for 50 cars???
JonS Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 We have come up with a possible solution to this problem. It involves Daventry Country Park and a picnic lunch! The park has a large car park with picnic facilities, a small cafe and a toilet block. There is also a public assault course which could be a great source of entertainment during the lunch break! The park is also This is the aerial view. The car park is top left next to the picnic area as is the assault course. The park is renown for is wildlife and plant life so could provide opportunity for any budding photographers to swap tips around the park. There is one draw back, however. The weather. Would people be happy to use the park for lunch, bring their own food and bring a couple of umbrella's just in case? Laura, Neil and myself think this would be a good location for the lunch break, something a bit different. There is also the meal at the end of the run at a pub, so hot food would not be far away Does anybody live near here so they can take a few pics of the place for us and make sure it is suitable. What are people's thoughts on this? Mods: Thread temporarily moved to General for more exposure
daz-man Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 this sounds fine to me. only thing that could spoil is the weather. but that aside its a good location.
JonS Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Might have a venue at Eydon, will ask the Landlady this lunch while I force down a few beers. Thanks Howard, bare in mind there will be approximately over 40 cars!
G Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 sounds like a great solution guys, looks like the parking is quite huge there, not close enough to check it out sorry but ill be packing a hamper. really looking forward to this now and happy to lead a group if you need, as i have tom tom
Neil_C Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 If the weathers crap, not as many people will turn up and we'll go to the pub.

Eric Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Daventry Country Park looks good to me. We'll pack the Elise with butties and cakes to slow it down a bit Cheers, Eric
Chorlton Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Daventry park would be great, thinking of moving there one day (soon as I can sell the house I have) Just need a car now
JonS Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Great, ok then, as the first few of you are happy with this, we'll run with it. Need to get the route re-done and approved so, back in touch with the MSA...
