MattyB
Does anyone know if there is a significant increase in wind resistance with the hood down? Seems to be alot of wind buffeting at the rear screen, especially on the motorway, and I remember Mr Clarkson saying how much petrol consumption increases in a regular car if you wind the windows down... Its not gonna stop me putting the hood down but I just wondered. I assume the Elise design was put through the wind tunnel?
Steve J
You could always remove your rear screen. Unfortunately can't do this on our S2.
Ladders
Matty, I'm sure Kai on seloc measured the wind resistance of the Elise in various guises, and found the car was more areodynamic with the top off! Was some quite interesting figures so might be worth serching the archeives!
Mark H
I seem to remember there was more downforce with the roof on.

MattyB
Found this... "I asked Nick Adams about Cd figures a couple of years ago, and if memory serves me right, roof on, widows up, Cd was 0.41 and roof off windows down it was 0.46"
shortname
I felt my S1 was faster with the hardtop on. But then I would say that as I'm selling it!! Soft top will flutter and bulge at speed which the hardtop won't, so should get better airflow over the surface.
Scott_Mac
Does it make any difference in the garage Matty? Wonder where the 340R figures in all of this....

MattyB
Does it make any difference in the garage Matty? I dunno, does your long girly hair cause much resistance?
jez_s
I've found that lowering the passenger window stops that buffeting noise. Or perhaps i'm deaf in my left ear
Zircon450
Or perhaps i'm deaf in my left ear I found dropping my passenger out reduced the noise - Kim aka Squiffers !
