I've just watched practice at www.itv-f1.com and the cars are a lot more spectacular with the absence of TC. There's a lovely shot of Lewis exiting a corner with the rear end drifting out of line.

Anyone fancy an outside bet at Webber and his first win?

Ian.

I think just about every driver entered the gravel trap at least once during todays practice lol!! As you saying the removal of TC certainly looks like it will liven things up! :D

Hamilton looked promising :drive:

Based on above the prediction is

1. Raikonnen

2. Hamilton

3. Massa

Fastest Lap Raikonnen

However these were all made before qualifying, am tempted to go against the above after Raikonnen's current 16th place standing.

Going to email the prediction in 30 mins, any comments from anyone before I do?

well, not sure what to think about this race. Had a discussion with a friend, and we were wondering what is the best driver? somebody who starts first and stay all the way at the front or somebody who's progressing through the pack during the race????

Ok, so I'll be honest, as all the votes were cast before the qualifiers and Raikonnen ended up in 16th place I went slightly against the overall prediction and put Hamilton First, followed by massa and Kovolinen (so really I just shifted things slightly :( ), for fastest lap I did stick with Raikonnen as you guys requested.

Anyway after all that we ended up with 6 points for a correct Hamilton prediction and are currently joint 2nd with about 20 other people lol!!!

Have to say I enjoyed the race (sometimes the Australian GP can be quite dull imo) and was pleased to see Hamilton's victory :P

Next round Malaysia on satuday so I'll start another thread at the end of the week

Bit of a summary below from the competition organsier (yes he is a complete F1 fanatic!):

The Race

Well what a way to kick off a new season! All that waiting was certainly worthwhile as the shiny new 2008 F1 bandwagon rolled into Australia but later left a mass of tangled and broken cars, as only seven made it to the final flag. Its been a long time since that rate of attrition happened, in fact do we have to go as far back as when the Red Baron (King Michael the Great of Ferrari) was driving, after all that was his favourite tactic, forcing or intimidating other cars off the track at whatever cost until hopefully there was no one else left!

However in a world of sanitised sport and indeed sportsmen it was great to see a heartfelt sentiment emerge this weekend from David (wash your mouth out boy) Coultard when, having been hit broadside by Massa coming out of a turn, spurned the chance to use the usual phrase of 'I believe it was a racing incident' preferring the more Anglo Saxon lament of 'if he doesn't own up to it being his fault I'll kick the sh4t out of the ba$4ard!!' I suspect those of you who watched the rerun would probably not have been exposed to this heart felt statement but at the time it was worth a good laugh, if only to hear the profuse apologies pouring from the ITV team immediately afterwards!

Lewis, as we expected, led from start to finish though it was not without drama and as we saw with the terribly unlucky 'Kovey' the way that the safety car was deployed had so much bearing on your eventual finish position. The potential for a McLaren 1-2 was a real possibility and only makes the thought of this weekends GP even more exciting. The performance of Ferrari was abysmal, starting off poor and eventually turning into a disaster as neither car finished. If only we could repeat this every race I would be in F1 heaven!

Ofcourse the big question going into the race was what effect would the lack of driver aids have? After the race I am still not sure. Certainly the race was action packed, often for the wrong reasons but I'm still not sure if the problems were as a result of driver error, race rustiness, over enthusiasm or lack of aids to stop drivers flying into walls at ridiculous speeds? Perhaps after two races the answer will come forward but for now lets have more of this dicing and destruction! With another race this weekend coming up we haven't long to wait to find out.

Isn't this ITVs Fantasy F1 ;)

Not sure if you're being serious or not? But no it isn't

Got you, sorry I'd never heard of the fantasy league until you mentionedi t. I had a look and you're right it is quite similar.

This is just a bit of a friendly competition between a load of friends / work colleagues around the country, its kind of grown and grown over the years
