Hi Bruce!

No it wont fit. Yes yours is a long tail roof so you need a long tail hard top. Although you can convert them to a short roof for $$$$

Hey Bruce

I've also got an S2 on 51 plate with the long tails. I bought a couple of months ago a hardtop from eliseparts and I can highly recommend these if you're looking to buy new. Mine is in CF but they still look good in regular gel coat. The hardtops look great and only take minutes to fit/remove... well worth the investment over the winter months :-D

If you buy from lotus they only do the the conversion kits now, which would convert the roof in to the short version and they would also supply you with the soft top as well. As expected though (as Ladders said) it's pretty pricey. This is only a personal opion but I prefer the long top to the short in appearance as I feel the lines flow better. The short top is easier to remove/fit (as can be done from inside the car if needed).

I enquired at Nick Whales about a hard top for my 51 plate S2. They also said that the roof conversion wwas needed as they do not supply long hard top roofs any more.

I was quote £2k for the roof & bits and approx £600 for labour.

I looked at the long roof available on elise parts, the black kone would suit my car well, so that would be the realistic option. If money didnt come in to it (!) then the conversion would already of been done lol!

Hi Rich

The prices of the black gel coated top (inc VAT) is £938.83 but in the carbon fibre its £1169.13 on eliseparts. On my CF version, the skin on the inside of the car is also using the black gel coat so would look good if all done this way... but of course personal preference would be to pay the extra as it's well worth it for the difference in the looks. I really doubt that there is much difference in the weight between the two types though.

Will take some pics and post back in a mo

Cheers

Tom

That looks great - i gotta get one of them!

Wonder if they would do discount if we could get a few people interested to by them in bulk

Re the long tail hardtop shown...

Is the inside lined (pictures if poss), and does it reduce the instantaneous misting that occurs within about 2-3 seconds at temperatuers below 5 deg c with the soft top?

Ta!

Hi natwest

normally the inner skin is just gel coated fibreglass which has a high gloss finish - this would be the case if choosing the usual gel coated or carbon fibre option. However, I had spoken to Geary about having the interior trimmed and this could have been done but would need to have been sent to a retrimmer they use (specialising in Lotus, TVR and classic Morgans) and would have cost a £100 extra for a type of felt material but the biggest downside was the additional delay this would have caused of around 4-6x weeks as these chaps are always very busy.

I have since had mine retrimmed with carbon leather which does reduce the road and engine noise whilst also (according to the girlfriend lol) makes the car a bit warmer than before too.

To the front - There is a large flexible clamp which tightens to the bottom of the windscreen and spreads the load across the whole width (I'll take some pics when it's light tomorrow and post back then). Along with a heavy guide pin which keeps allows for accurate fitting on the corner of the screen - this slots into one of the spacers used the the soft top. This can be further adjusted by 4x screws attached to the bracket that the guide pin is mounted through.

At the back - there are a couple of long bolts which are fitted into to the tails directly into the current bolt holes that secure the softtop mount part thingy (sorry don't know what it's called).

Erm, as to the instantaneous misting... I'm really not sure about the difference that this makes as mine still does mist up fairly quickly (especially as it's snowing today) but it does seem to clear quite quickly and also stay clear(warmer)

One other comment I will mention as big advantage is the much better fit with the hardtop with the windows due to the rubber seals which are supplied as these you add yourself ensuring the best possible fit for your car.

Hope that this helps a bit but any further queries just fire away :drive:

Really couldn't say on this but if you give them a buzz, Ian can always ask for you(they are really friendly chaps). I know that I've always had quite a wait (an extra 2-3x weeks usually) when ordering stuff in carbon fibre as the chap they use is very good but has quite a bit on so I wouldn't expect too much difference if going for that option.

Good luck though
