howell Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Evening. I’ve recently posted about more power for my s1. I’ve been thinking about it and was wondering if the 200bhp rover turbo engine works? My s1 has done 70,000, my head gasket has gone and my gearbox has seen better days. I was considering looking for a low miles turbo car, with service history, having the engine and gearbox and scrapping the rest once I’ve had what I needed. I haven’t got the funds for the supercharged type r at the moment!! Cheers Lee

From what I remember about it, it probably wouldn't fit in either. They did do a 1800 K series turbo, but aside from the fact it would probably take a good amount of work to get the extra bits in and heat would probably get the better of you , it was only 150bhp and more fragile than the naturally aspirated 1800 K series. smilesoffun Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Hello, Just come across an advert in Classics magazine, A company called AUTOKINETIC 07836 700 804 or 0117 937 23 39 have and I quote a 1998 Lotus Elise fitted with a Rover 220 Turbo engine with 200 ++++ BHP. It is painted in a union Jack flag and looks good value at £9975
MilesH Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 That's been for sale for a while, there's an advert on Pistonheads for it. I'll see if I can find it. It is definitely do able, I've seen 2 now with the T series fitted. I'm sure weight would be a big issue though as they are quite a heavy engine, and not sure if the engine would match the original mounts of if anybody is making custom mounts for the conversion? Might be worth talknig to Autokinteic if you are seriously considering it.
Mark A Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Don't remember the T-series being fragile and we ran them at 220-230bhp.
MikePMC Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Don't remember the T-series being fragile and we ran them at 220-230bhp. Two of the people I know who have run them have issues with heat on the pistons. Saying that it is only 3 but 2 out of 3 is either a weakspot or some very bad luck. I'm not talking "K series" fragile mind! Mike
