The Type 1 Lotus Watch

Lotus engineers a timekeeping solution by designing first Lotus watch

The Type 1 Lotus Watch is the first wrist watch to be created by Lotus Design, the famous

design studio responsible for all Lotus current and future products, as well as numerous client

programmes.

The quartz analogue chronograph watch is a bespoke timepiece which is infused with Lotus

core values through its appearance which is highly technical, yet clean, stylish and elegant.

However, the Type 1 Lotus watch is not a mere branding exercise; it was designed by Lotus

Design, and boasts beautifully crafted components. These include an orange anodised

aluminium crown guard mounted on a high power black dial with the Lotus roundel, taking

inspiration from precision automotive and race parts used in the modern day Lotus sports car.

Reflecting on the design, Barney Hatt, Principal Designer of Lotus Design, and originator of the

Type 1 Lotus Watch, explains: "Lotus has always been about innovative engineering solutions

presented in the most elegant form whilst avoiding superfluous detail. Highly machined

aesthetic forms underline the precise nature of the watch which are balanced by the use of

tactile materials."

A high precision quartz movement, a three-dial 1/10th of a second stopwatch timing system (up

to one hour), and a calendar mechanism promote sophistication. The stainless steel casing

completes the technical flowing profile of the watch, and is finished with an etched logo of Lotus

Design on the rear of the case. This is equally complemented by a comfortable and durable

high-density resin adjustable strap with a stainless steel buckle.

Commenting on the introduction of the first "in house" designed Lotus watch, Russell Carr,

Chief Designer of Lotus Design explains: "This is the first time Lotus Design has had the

opportunity to play such a significant role in the development of a non-automotive product.

Whilst there are factors specific to watchmaking which we have had to learn, we wanted the

Type 1 Lotus Watch to be essentially like our cars: to create desire through emotional and

unique forms that remain honest to the functionality of the product."

The Type 1 Lotus Watch, manufactured by Time Products (UK) Ltd, will be available from 10

February, 2006at a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of GBP 175 incl. VAT. Full specification

and purchase details can be found at the online Lotus webstore (www.lotuscarswebstore.co.uk)

or from the UK dealer network. The new timepiece will make its official public debut on the

Lotus stand (stand 1255) at the 76th International Motor Show in Geneva between 28 February

– 12 March, 2006.

  • What is the point of a Lotus these days?

I have recently changed my Daily from a dirty diesel to an electric.  It struck me that the 0-60 times were almost identical, possibly quicker, to the Exige so my thought was, if comfortable family cars with suitcase room are now performing so well, are our cars becoming obsolete? Has the acceleration potential of EV’s made traditional sports cars meaningless? In an era where electric motor torque is rewriting the rules of straight‑line acceleration, it’s easy to forget what “fast” use

LOTUS Action Camera Mod for rear view mirror

Hi, my name is Marco and I'm from Liverpool, I'm new to this forum and new to Lotus. Towards the end of last year I started to get that itch of wanting a sporty fun car again (I had owned a couple of Mk4 Supras between 2000 & 2009) I was looking for a car that was not too big as it needed to fit into my narrow garage so I could hook it up to a trickle charger as it was not going to be a daily driver. I decided that an Elise would be perfect, after searching for months for the

Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)

Hi all as with most of my cars I thought I’d start a bit of a build thread. However unlike most cars which I bought and built up to be highly modified the plans for the lotus are quite different and so this will be more thread of its life in my ownership. I have also created a Facebook page called “Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)” containing images of its progress pre and post purchase. Newbie question

As the title suggests , a newbie query. I have just bought an S2 Elise , 2007 with the Toyota 1ZZ power unit in ‘ touring spec’. That means electric windows, a radio and , err, not sure what else. Anyway, that is not the subject of the query. The car is blue with a cream interior. The latter I don’t plan to keep. In fact , already bought some equivalent second hand door cards in black and am looking hard at a pair of Corbeau LE seats . So, first part of my query centres on those Corbeau seats. A
