K-Series Gearbox Options

K-Series Gearbox Options

The K-series engined Elise uses a Rover gearbox, designated the PG1. Nominally this is similar to the gearboxes used on many MGs and Rovers from 1.1 through to 1.8 litres, with the main variants being the ratios used and the stype of clutch lever.

There are 2 main groups of ratios used in the Elise PG1, wide ratio (WR or commonly referred to as 'std') and close ratio (CR). The std ratios were fitted to normal Series 1's, Series 2 111S's

The std gearbox can be fitted with a variety of different ratios with options being available from places such as Eliseparts, Quaife or www.Gearboxman.co.uk .

Completely different replacement gearboxes are available from Quaife (and allegedly an option from Ricardo). These allow the option of 6 speed, dog or synchro engagement, straight cut or helical gears, sequential or H-pattern arrangements, but with an associated cost of £3k->£4k.
