The S2 elise was meant to have all the rear light clusters lit up, but some crappy EU law forced Lotus to disable the inner clusters. I think I understand what your wanting to do,in so much as you want all four rear reds to be lit?? if this is the case it can be done. First off, you need to look at the rear lights from inside the boot, the spare bulb mounting you refer to is probably blanked off,if so it is a real pita to do and in my opininon not worth the trouble. However very early S2's weren't blanked off as Lotus had a few light clusters made as they originally intended and they just removed the bulbs. If your car is the earlier type then you can purchase the bulbs and holders and just plug them into the loom for connection purposes. If its a later S2, first you will have to source the bulb holders and bulbs(not easy),then you'll have to splice into the loom for a feed and then you will have to carefully grind out the blanks in the light cluster to take the holders....

The inner units hold the fog lights but Lotus use a dual filament bulb in there so you need to get a feed to the other filament, which you can take from the outer units, On most S2's when the lights are on it would look like this:

( ) ) ( ( )

The other half of the inner units are the biggest problem as they are normally blanked off and they need carefully drilling out to accept a suitable bulb holder, if yours aren't blanked off then you just need a bulb holder and again need to get a feed to it, this can be taken from the loom that supplies the outer units.

The bulb holders are notoriously difficult to get hold of, but Nissan and Merc have used them in the past so maybe a trip to thier parts dept armed with one of the Lotus ones as a match might do the trick(Lotus only supply them with the light units and they are £££). Nick Adams the Lotus tecchy guru said that running all the rears from the same loom won't cause any problems as the car was made to run like this from day one. So doing all the above won't overload any wiring/ fuses etc and you should end up with rear lights as in the pic above.

What is the point of a Lotus these days?

I have recently changed my Daily from a dirty diesel to an electric.  It struck me that the 0-60 times were almost identical, possibly quicker, to the Exige so my thought was, if comfortable family cars with suitcase room are now performing so well, are our cars becoming obsolete? Has the acceleration potential of EV’s made traditional sports cars meaningless? In an era where electric motor torque is rewriting the rules of straight‑line acceleration, it’s easy to forget what “fast” use

LOTUS Action Camera Mod for rear view mirror

Hi, my name is Marco and I'm from Liverpool, I'm new to this forum and new to Lotus. Towards the end of last year I started to get that itch of wanting a sporty fun car again (I had owned a couple of Mk4 Supras between 2000 & 2009) I was looking for a car that was not too big as it needed to fit into my narrow garage so I could hook it up to a trickle charger as it was not going to be a daily driver. I decided that an Elise would be perfect, after searching for months for the

Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)

Hi all as with most of my cars I thought I’d start a bit of a build thread. However unlike most cars which I bought and built up to be highly modified the plans for the lotus are quite different and so this will be more thread of its life in my ownership. I have also created a Facebook page called “Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)” containing images of its progress pre and post purchase. Newbie question

As the title suggests , a newbie query. I have just bought an S2 Elise , 2007 with the Toyota 1ZZ power unit in ‘ touring spec’. That means electric windows, a radio and , err, not sure what else. Anyway, that is not the subject of the query. The car is blue with a cream interior. The latter I don’t plan to keep. In fact , already bought some equivalent second hand door cards in black and am looking hard at a pair of Corbeau LE seats . So, first part of my query centres on those Corbeau seats. A
