£13,500!

Went to a car supermarket today to look at a new (DC5) Integra Type-R, import. Was listed for £17,499 with 9000miles on the clock.

Couldn't drive it as its in the showroom, but out of interest I asked how much they'd give me in p/x with the Elise.

They couldn't find the 160 listed in their books, did alot of phoning around, had a look around it etc. He asked how much I wanted for it. I gave him the optimistic figure of £17k (I only payed £17.5 for it 4 months ago) and he laughed.

"The best we can do is £13,500" he said. "They get hard to sell after they've done £15k miles" (erm, yeah). He told me that Lotus would only give them £13k for it to buy it.

Apparently, they'd put it up for sale at £15k - because the Lotus dealer said they'd only put it up for a bit more than that. Again, I argued that the high-miler 160Sports sell for that much *privately*

He said thats the best they could do - so I said goodbye.

I'm shocked. Looks like a trade-in is out of the question when I come to sell it. Granted its winter, but if it wasn't I cant see them offering me £4k more in summer...

i got a px offer of 8k for my s1 when it had 36k on (about 3 months ago). It's immaculate, corbeau seats, carpets FLSH etc. I was very dissapointed at its value.

August 2002 i was being offered 11700. I think trade ins are now pointless on S1's unless its for another elise because in general garages dont want them as they are not the current spec/shape, and "too specialist" to move on easily.

new Integra is a quality drive, mate of mine had one for a couple of months when they first came into the country.

How many miles on your 160 ?

Insult!

Reminds me of when I was buying my Elise. I was going to part ex my Mk1 Gti. It took it one garage and they wouldnt give me a price at all until a car was in I was interested in.

Another offered me £200!

As you can image I told them to forget it, went private, and saved myself a couple of grand!

Passed our good friends Peter Smith on Saturday (3rd) and they have a few S1s in. One took my fancy, 1999 standard car with hard-top and 5 spoke wheels (so v early, mine is April and has 6 spoke).

Now I could not see the mileage but the sticker price was .....

don't laugh, it is winter after all ....

£17,450 :)

There were also a couple of S reg standard cars at £16,450, so I guess they will be up around £20k when the sun shines.

6 spoke ? what rims are they ???

They changed the wheel design Jonny, later cars (V and on I think) have a different style of wheel.... personally i prefer the 5 spokes on the early car.

Fairly sure someone in the garage has pics of the newer wheels.

Mine is the later 6/12 spoke, came in mid '99. I actually looked for this version as I had been told the small slot in the 5 spoker were a buxxxxx to keep clean.

Regarding "friend" P Smith, I wouldn't touch them with your barge pole. Only contact has been an early test drive and nearly looking at other cars because I thought their prices were on the level and about 12 months ago one of our sales guys ripped my rear clam and I took the car there. After releaving the insurance co of £2500 I sent a 2 page fax of problems to them, these included non opening boot, off set tail pipe, radio antenna not connected, bulbs not working, non matching wheel etc etc.

Only took 3 or 4 returns and an ear bashing from mr smith "I knew you were going to be trouble when I saw the fax"

Says it all realy

JohnnyM,

About your Integra experience - all you ever see is 'great drive, suspension uncomfortable, bl''dy noisy'. Is this fair when compared with Elise? I'm looking for something with four decent seats, boot etc. that still puts a grin on my face and not to expensive. Struggling!
