Tango190
as the title, is it more reliable than the s1 etc? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Tonner, stop this now. The newer more advanced car with newer susp and engine will always feel better. Stop spending money on sheds and save for a newer car or tip top earlier car. With respect

chorton_1
How much better is an S1 than an S2? Well, I would say about this much:- |-----------------------------| Thats quite a lot, because Christmas rates only:- |--------------------| And mid-week birthdays rate only:- |--------------| On the other hand, the day I got married rated:- |---------------------------------------------------| And in terms of life changing events, the birth of my son rated:- |---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| The debate over which car is better has all been done many times over. In my opinion, I have grown to prefer the look of S2's (amazing, because I much preferred S1's when I bought my S1), they have better practicality day to day. However, I prefer my S1's rawness and overall feel, but I wouldn't like to have to drive it every day. In order to own one, your perception of the driving experience has got to outweigh all the problems associated (lack of gadgets, some kitcar qualities, relatively high but not necessarilly expensive maintanence). If you are perusing S2000 and Audi TT forums then the additional comfort / extras and more sorted nature of an S2 are more likely to suit you. However, as said by others it sounds as though the car is too much upkeep, not well enough sorted and that generally you don't enjoy the positives enough to outweigh the negatives of daily use. On the assumption it would be a daily car I think you are better off looking at more sorted cars like the TT and S2000, although thats just my 2p. An Elise is a crap car in a vast number of ways, but in the few ways it isn't crap it is absolutely marvellous.
tonner_notts
understand your view tango, but i know i made a mistake changin from the elise to wrx, hold my hands up to that, thought id enjoy the car and it would be more practical, true it is more practical but for my age etc that wasent a problem i had to worry about with the elise, the wrx just feels to big and heavy, get used to the speed to quickly where as the elise always felt fast and nippy like its supposed to, so its either a s2 or a s1 and spend some cash on it, put a bid in for this and if i get it, i wunt mind spending a little bit on it to get it perfect, any thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/97-R-LOTUS-ELISE-303...1QQcmdZViewItem
chorton_1
Have you looked at it? Sounds OK though, although I'm not sure whether a new clutch 30k is usual and I'm not sure whether I believe the comment about the HUGE difference the way the car picks up speed. tonner_notts
cheers, going to get it checked over and if all seems ok then looks like i have myself another elise, its got full specialist history and has had the following work done all four shocks replaced in 2004, cam belt changed in 2004, new headgasket, thermostat, starter motor in 2002, new window regulators in 2005, new front pads, four tyres, new clutch in 2005. dont mind spending money on it at this price, even if 2k gets it back to perfection i dont think its a bad price

tonner_notts
not so keen on the colour to be honest, but beggers cant be choosers, would of liked to of brought a newer more perfect example, but at the price and i have many months to get the car sorted before the better weather is with us, although sayin that the car maybe in great condition just need tidying up, well going to take alook tomorrow so will let you know what its like, is there anyone in bradford that would take alook for a few beer tokens? GCCK
Well done! Amazing price - great opportunism, probably saving near-on £2K buying this way from someone who had set his reserve at only £6.5K, so wanted a deal come what may. Even if there are some scares round the corner, at that price you should have enough up your sleeve to fix it. The best bit is this time you're doing the Elise thing with your eyes wide open!
