Steve G Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 There seems to be a fair few Evoras in the club now. Do you guys who run them use them as everyday cars? How do they stack up as a daily drive? More useable than an Elise/Exige? Did they run well through the Winter months? There's a chance I might be able to return to the fold later this year if things pan out. Last time I ran an Elise it was as a third car, but this time its going to have to be my main car, with an upgrade to the wifes car taking over the main family transport. Speaking of which, anyone with a family, how does the +2 stack up? We have a 2 and 5 year old so will need to fit child seats/booster seats occasionally. It's not going to happen just yet, just trying to get some early research in...
P4N Lotus Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I use as daily drive since Feb to present, car is lovely, build quality is completely different to elise and exiges - considering most BMWs are tiny and plastic today, id say the Evora is far better interior than the BMW's. Very warm in the winter, very relaxed totally a grown up lotus - just little considerations which make it so much livable with on a day to day basis. Its just the little things like the way the front lip is angled should make it that you never clip a curb when parking. I decided to go for the 2+0 cause the +2 the back literally x2 under 10yr olds would fit in the back just and I have no kids - definitely wont fit two adults in there, 5thGear did a drive with two tiny female contortionists in the back they were like sardines. Drive is very smooth but sporty when required, car is very grippy, V6 is lovely, ive got the Sport Tech model, the Rear Cam + Reverse sensors are a definite **must have**, some have it without (brave people). Real Head Turner - Ive got bit of a intermittent electrical sensor issue on my cruise control (i rarely use, but will be fixed under warranty), batteries like most lotus are a bit shit. but considering I used my Elise as a daily drive, looking back at it it was absolutely horrid sat in traffic on cold, winter days, considering february was snowing it was comfy and warm. I do about 110-140 miles a week, cost me about £30-40 max a week if I have fun, if I was being relaxed and eco its definitely possible to get two weeks worth out of £45-50 Exhaust is far too quiet , Ive had to go for a sports one to hear it - great car and lots of MLOCERS are starting to consider them now as a future buy
Elaine Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 That's a good write up. Do you really NEED reverse parking sensors though? We found the Exige really easy to park, the Esprit is a lot harder, but I still prefer my own judgement over sensors. Maybe it's because we regularly reverse/parallel park vans that have bulkheads (no rear view mirror) and sometimes pathetic door mirrors... 'Grown up Lotus' - That's exactly how we feel about the Esprit. We loved the Exige, but not as much as we did the Esprit as an all round car, so when we looked for another Lotus, it had to be an Esprit. Glad you're loving your Evora.

There was another esprit owner at the time saying he is considering the evora at the lotus show he was testing one out at stratstone and asking me loadsa questions. The Evora is eventually to make way for the Élan which from what I understand will use the same engine and chassis (currently) think that's not planed till 2016-18 though

I know the one at Donington looked really tall parked next to us, but I didn't take much notice of it's overall size. That'd mean only 53kg for a full tank of fuel, coolant, oil, etc. I don't know what each of these weigh per litre, but I know water is around 1kg per litre... Apparently, the S4s Esprits are almost 6ft 5" wide including the mirrors. But yes, it seems they are very similar sized cars. I've seen a pic of an Evora in a similar colour to our S4s (Silk Red) looks very nice. Maroon coloured in the shade, bronzy red in the sunshine. It's called Velvet Red.

I used to have an Elise and have to agree it is like a grown ups version of a lotus. I wouldn't have any other car Now. I consider a lot of options but from attention to drive everything is pure class
