Martin32 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 After crawling across the seat to replace my Tax Disc I caught the seat belt holder with my foot which caused it to shudder – thought nothing of it until next driving the car. Now the seat belt warning light comes on intermittently – more on than off – I have tried wiggling the holder with the seat belt clip in it and this does cause the light to go out – I’m sure it’s the internal switch and not the wiring. My question is – how do I gain access to the switch inside the holder – and is it possible to replace without the seat coming out?
Mark H Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 You will probably find the wire has been broken under the seat, I pulled the seat forward on my old car and was able to get access to the wiring and reconnect it with a connector block and all was well. They have a habit of getting tangled up with the seat runners and getting broken.
Scott_Mac Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Remove wire, tape over. Problem solved. Strangely enough it fixes to the seatbelt clip on the drivers side, so you could just de-attach there and pull the excess out of that side and then find the wire on the other and do the same.
ipanter Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 i had it too, just a damaged wire, probably in your case it has pulled out of what it was connected to. It probably flashes is because the wire is touching the floor pan or seat runners. Like they said just tape it up.
Martin32 Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 Had a good look, and I've come to the conclusion that its definatly the switch inside the seat belt holder. I've found the conectors under the passenger seat and have disconnected the one cable and taped up. I'd like to be able to fix the problem, does this mean replacing the seat belt holder or is there away to get inside to replace the switch??

They're simple "bullet" connectors. Mind you, if they're not connected, the light shouldn't be on anyway IIRC. Maybe that's not it ? If you can't fix it, I can swap the seat belt fixing from mine as I've got harnesses - give me a shout if you need.

They're simple "bullet" connectors. The wires trail from the seat belt holder down and under the passenger seat - I could clearly see the "bullet" connectors and thats what I disconected (to disable the working light)

Martin32 Posted July 21, 2005 Author Posted July 21, 2005 Just to let you all know, my seat belt warning light is now working correctly The WD40 did the trick must have lubricated whatever is inside?
