Phil.S Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Got a few hours in over the last 2 days. Finished the engine bay by mounting the main header tank and also th CC header tank. Its looking very busy again but theres plenty of access with the boost hose to the throttle body removed: So I thought I'd move to the front and try and get the fiat cinq rad fitted. so off with the clam (sorry Martin would have asked but it was a spare of the moment decision!). Came off in about an hour only had to drill the fusebox bolts out Initial impressions were that I was onto a winner with this baby: However It was a bit thick to sit under the main rad with the fan in place. This leaves me 3 options: 1. Mount the fiat rad directly under the main rad and mout the fan under the fiat rad. Not sure if this will affect the effectiveness of the fan though? 2. Mount the fiat rad directly under the main rad as low as possible and mout the fan on top of the main rad - not sure if the front lid will close so will have to experiment with this 3. Try and find a smaller rad so I can mount it lower in the crash thingy and leave the main rad as is. So if anyone knows of a radiator no more than 370mm wide and anywhere up to 430mm long let me know ASAP!! Has to be cheap though no custom alloy jobbies. So I think I'm stuck for the time being....
Phil.S Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 Right Sorted. Ordered a Seat Ibiza mk1 rad today which dimensionally fits beautifully in the crash box. What a mission trawling through the internet for hours and hours!!
Phil.S Posted January 7, 2010 Author Posted January 7, 2010 I've spent the last few days freezing my nuts (and bolts) off. Oh its so cold, and I have a cold which makes it worst!! Anyway my Seat Ibiza rad turned up on Tuesday so after a LOT of pondering I finally managed to fit it into the cracsh box at the front (mole grips are tempory until the sikaflex sets): It fits so so snugly in there and for £30 brand new and delivered was right up my street. This sits about 100mm beneath the main rad so hopefully heat soak will be minimised. I have had to move the main fan over a bit but hopefully the effects of this will be marginal. I also had to drill a hole in the cowell for the outlet of the CC rad: Now all I'm left with is running the pipes to the back of the car and wiring in the pump. Progress at last Oopsy Juost realised I've bolted the radiator in 180 degrees out.
