Local Star Tracy Sits Out Most of the Action with Moraes, Sato Picking Up Speed

TORONTO (July 16, 2010) — E.J. Viso, coming off impressive performances at Iowa and Watkins Glen in recent weeks, paced the four-driver KV Racing Technology lineup Friday in the opening day of action in the streets of Toronto for the Honda Indy Toronto, the tenth stop on the 17-race IZOD IndyCar Series

Viso, the personable 25-year-old Venezuela driver, piloted the No. 8 PDVSA—KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine to the seventh fastest speed in Friday's practice runs with a 101.123 mile per hour clocking on the rough and slippery 1.74-mile, 11-turn temporary circuit at Exhibition Place. Viso, who passed 16 drivers at Iowa and 14 at Watkins Glen, was as high as fourth in the 26-car field before settling for seventh. Ryan Hunter-Reay was the fastest on Friday at 101.668 m.p.h.

Fan favorite Paul Tracy, the two-time Honda Indy Toronto winner, sat out the majority of the Friday afternoon session, as his crew repaired the front left hub of the No. 15 Honda Canada—Make A Wish—KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone entry from early damage. Tracy attempted to get back on the track with three minutes left in the session, but the KVRT squad decided to save Tracy's Firestone tires for Saturday competition. Tracy's best speed was 97.719 m.p.h. with just five laps. Qualifying is set for Saturday at 12:50 p.m. EDT.

Mario Moraes drove the No. 32 KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone car to 19th in Friday practice with a best lap of 99.202 m.p.h., while series rookie Takuma Sato, still learning the tough circuit in his Toronto debut, drove the No. 5 Lotus - KV Racing Technology Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine to 21st fastest at 98.956 m.p.h.

E.J. VISO -- #8 PDVSA – KV RACING TECHNOLOGY HONDA/DALLARA/FIRESTONE: "I am happy as we have been making progress with the car each session. This is definitely a very tough place to race. It is a very unstable and bumpy track. You need a good car here but you need to drive the track very precisely. There is a lot of direction change on this circuit. I have been working very closely with Bill (Pappas, Viso's chief engineer) and we have been improving the car every run. The track was very slippery in the early portion of that session with the other (support) cars running ahead of us. But, in the last half of the session, the track felt like it was getting better and gaining more grip. We are looking for a good run on Saturday."

MARIO MORAES -- #32 KV RACING TECHNOLOGY HONDA/DALLARA/FIRESTONE: "Overall it has been a good first day. I am pleased to be back here in Toronto, I really enjoy the track. We unfortunately didn't find the right balance, but we will work on some things overnight and hopefully have a better day tomorrow."

TAKUMA SATO -- #5 LOTUS – KV RACING TECHNOLOGY HONDA/DALLARA/FIRESTONE: "It was a tough day. The circuit is extremely bumpy and slippery, especially on the concrete patches which made it very difficult to predict the setup of the car. Today was all about learning this unique track as quickly as possible. Tonight we will go over the data and hopefully improve the car for qualifying tomorrow."
