Vitaly Petrov: “I Am Confident We Will Have A Good Weekend”

Vitaly round ten of the 2011 season. How are you feeling going into the German Grand Prix?

I am feeling pretty good. Obviously we didn't have a fantastic weekend in Silverstone. Anyway we have analysed things to look at what went wrong. Now we are happy that we came back on the normal throttle map, so we are looking forward and, with some small updates, I am confident we will have a good weekend.

Since we last saw you, you've been in Sochi, Russia promoting Formula One. Tell us about your experience there?

Oh it was really great fun, a lot of fans followed me and they really like motorsports (over there). They really enjoyed that weekend and what we did there. It was very hot and sunny, we burned a lot of tyres! So I hope the fans stay positive and were happy with what we did last weekend.

As you said, there were a lot of fans for you there in Sochi - is there a particular interest of yours to be able to show your sport to your own compatriots?

Of course I love coming to Russia to show the people what Formula One is. A lot of people don't have the opportunity to go to a Formula One event because it is quite expensive, and now finally Formula One will be coming to Russia in 2014. With the one-off event at the weekend, it showed the crowd what a real Formula One car is.

And focusing on this weekend, how do you expect the car to perform?

We hope it will be much better than it was at Silverstone. The forecast said the weather conditions will be tricky, but anyway this time I think we are better prepared than we were at Silverstone.

Does the German Grand Prix present different challenges because one year it's in Hockenheim and next year it's Nurburgring. Is it difficult to get used to this track?

Absolutely no, for me I did some races here in GP2. I have a quite good results so I am looking forward to with a Formula One car here.

  • What is the point of a Lotus these days?

I have recently changed my Daily from a dirty diesel to an electric.  It struck me that the 0-60 times were almost identical, possibly quicker, to the Exige so my thought was, if comfortable family cars with suitcase room are now performing so well, are our cars becoming obsolete? Has the acceleration potential of EV’s made traditional sports cars meaningless? In an era where electric motor torque is rewriting the rules of straight‑line acceleration, it’s easy to forget what “fast” use

LOTUS Action Camera Mod for rear view mirror

Hi, my name is Marco and I'm from Liverpool, I'm new to this forum and new to Lotus. Towards the end of last year I started to get that itch of wanting a sporty fun car again (I had owned a couple of Mk4 Supras between 2000 & 2009) I was looking for a car that was not too big as it needed to fit into my narrow garage so I could hook it up to a trickle charger as it was not going to be a daily driver. I decided that an Elise would be perfect, after searching for months for the

Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)

Hi all as with most of my cars I thought I’d start a bit of a build thread. However unlike most cars which I bought and built up to be highly modified the plans for the lotus are quite different and so this will be more thread of its life in my ownership. I have also created a Facebook page called “Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)” containing images of its progress pre and post purchase. Newbie question

As the title suggests , a newbie query. I have just bought an S2 Elise , 2007 with the Toyota 1ZZ power unit in ‘ touring spec’. That means electric windows, a radio and , err, not sure what else. Anyway, that is not the subject of the query. The car is blue with a cream interior. The latter I don’t plan to keep. In fact , already bought some equivalent second hand door cards in black and am looking hard at a pair of Corbeau LE seats . So, first part of my query centres on those Corbeau seats. A
