Lotus’ Brussels Line-Up Sparkles With Motorsport Gem

Lotus’ latest addition to the family, the race-ready Elise S Cup R, stands alongside its siblings from the Exige and Evora ranges in Brussels this January at the 2014 Salon Auto/Moto.

The small but mighty Elise S Cup R sets the tone for the Lotus collection on display in Hall 12 stand 12.09 of the 2014 Salon Auto/Moto; Lotus’ passion for motorsport, lightweight ethos and racing pedigree is clear.

The Lotus collection is brimming with a stunning selection from across its range; the agile Elise, the purposeful Exige and the distinctive Evora will all be represented. Specifically on display is the Evora S Sports Racer, the Exige S and its Roadster brother, the brand new Elise S Club Racer, and of course, the headlining Elise S Cup R.

Graeme Robertson, Head of Sales for Lotus Cars said, “Lotus has supported this important show for more than 15 years and has always enjoyed considerable success here. This year, we are proud to present the Elise S Cup R alongside the recently expanded Exige range and strive to support our three Belgian dealers in every way.”

Elise S Cup R

Evolving from the Elise S platform, Lotus is delighted to present the mid-mounted, transverse, 1.8 litre Elise S Cup R. Boasting bespoke livery and aerodynamic body kit, the Elise S Cup R showcases the marriage of form and function perfectly so that performance is optimised yet retains its stylish and iconic aesthetic.

Performance is enhanced over the road-going Elise S thanks to a motorsport-specific engine control module (ECM) and a CFD proved aero pack comprising; front splitter, barge boards, winglets, rear diffuser, floor extensions and rear wing which employs clever manipulation of air-flow to create extra downforce – and combined with adjustable damper and springs, lap times are reduced by 4 seconds on a 5 km lap over the standard Elise S.

Rupert Manwaring, Head of Lotus Motorsport commented, “Developing the Elise S Cup R was a natural step following the success of the Exige V6 Cup R; with so many new markets becoming interested in motorsport the Elise S Cup R gives us the perfect entry level track-car. Whether the focus is racing or simply developing your driving skills on a race circuit and having fun, the incredible handling and ease of use with low running costs make the Elise S Cup R an intelligent choice”.

Elise S Club Racer

A road legal alternative to the Elise S Cup R, the supercharged 1.8 litre Elise S Club Racer concept comprises funky colour schemes, the innovative application of materials and enhanced driving dynamics and performance, resulting in a compelling purchase for Lotus purists and track day enthusiasts.

Achieving a weight reduction of up to 19.56kg over the standard Elise S, the stripped-out Club Racer boasts an improved power to weight ratio delivering 240bhp per tonne, it accelerates to 100 km/h from standing in 4.6 seconds, and reaches a top speed on 234 km/h.

It goes without saying that the Elise S Club Racer is developed with Lotus’ legendary dynamic performance at its heart, delivering thrilling characteristics thanks to Lotus’ trademark agile and precise handling and plenty of feedback so that the driver has optimum control and can intuitively deploy nimble steering and acutely accurate braking.

Exige S

The Exige S blends the extreme and the sublime. In true Lotus fashion, it traces its origins back to motorsport, conceived from technology developed in competition. With its highly tuned engine, dramatic styling, and hardcore handling - Lotus’ recipe for intense performance remains instantly recognisable.

The aggressive lines of the 350 PS Exige S underline its racing pedigree; its track inspired aerodynamics a statement of its performance ability. Weighing in at 1176kg and capable of 0-100 km/h in just 4 seconds, Lotus’ engineering and motorsport expertise is clear; it’s a sports car that delivers on both road and track, its lightweight chassis and awesome 3.5 litre supercharged V6 engine providing a perfect balance of power and weight.

The Exige S driver can harness its incredible power using Lotus’ Dynamic Performance Management system (DPM) that offers extra stability when the high levels of grip are exceeded. Selectable ‘Sport’ and ‘Race’ modes takes DPM one step further, allowing the driver to safely explore the limits of the car even further.

Exige S Roadster

The Exige S Roadster is the perfect car for a ‘joy’ ride; powered by the same 3.5 litre V6 as the coupé and weighing in 10kg less at 1166kg, none of the exhilarating performance of the phenomenal Exige S is compromised, yet the Exige S Roadster driver is just ‘two clicks and a roll’ away from cruising in open-top style thanks to the lightweight, factory-fitted soft top.

Achieving 0-100 km/h from standing in 4 seconds, delivering 350 PS at 7000 rpm and 295 lb ft of torque at 4500 rpm, the Roadster matches the coupé’s mechanical performance and retains its €67,880 price tag, but style takes an understated approach having shed its rear wing and front splitter to maximise airflow over its sleek silhouette.

Evora S Sports Racer

The Evora S ‘Sports Racer’ is a visually enhanced and optimised version of the mid-engined supercharged 3.5 litre V6 sports car that delivers phenomenal performance, exclusive style and incredible excitement. The Evora S ‘Sports Racer’ receives a unique exterior colour scheme with an optimised interior to match and comes fully loaded, boasting Lotus’ ultimate specification.

The Evora S Sports Racer comes with ‘Sport’ mode which allows the driver to control throttle response and activate the engine protection valve. ‘Sport’ mode also raises the rev limit and changes the dynamic stability control settings resulting in a total experience change. There are also cross-drilled brakes as standard for improved cooling. The external emotion of the Evora S has been enhanced with a completely new active exhaust system which means that at the push of the ‘Sport’ button the Evora S Sports Racer sounds just as dramatic as it looks and feels.

What is the point of a Lotus these days?

I have recently changed my Daily from a dirty diesel to an electric.  It struck me that the 0-60 times were almost identical, possibly quicker, to the Exige so my thought was, if comfortable family cars with suitcase room are now performing so well, are our cars becoming obsolete? Has the acceleration potential of EV’s made traditional sports cars meaningless? In an era where electric motor torque is rewriting the rules of straight‑line acceleration, it’s easy to forget what “fast” use

LOTUS Action Camera Mod for rear view mirror

Hi, my name is Marco and I'm from Liverpool, I'm new to this forum and new to Lotus. Towards the end of last year I started to get that itch of wanting a sporty fun car again (I had owned a couple of Mk4 Supras between 2000 & 2009) I was looking for a car that was not too big as it needed to fit into my narrow garage so I could hook it up to a trickle charger as it was not going to be a daily driver. I decided that an Elise would be perfect, after searching for months for the

Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)

Hi all as with most of my cars I thought I’d start a bit of a build thread. However unlike most cars which I bought and built up to be highly modified the plans for the lotus are quite different and so this will be more thread of its life in my ownership. I have also created a Facebook page called “Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)” containing images of its progress pre and post purchase. Newbie question

As the title suggests , a newbie query. I have just bought an S2 Elise , 2007 with the Toyota 1ZZ power unit in ‘ touring spec’. That means electric windows, a radio and , err, not sure what else. Anyway, that is not the subject of the query. The car is blue with a cream interior. The latter I don’t plan to keep. In fact , already bought some equivalent second hand door cards in black and am looking hard at a pair of Corbeau LE seats . So, first part of my query centres on those Corbeau seats. A
