British Grand Prix - Attack Of The Facts Part 1

6 DAYS TO GO TILL... THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX

● Lotus first won the British Grand Prix in 1962. Jim Clark took the chequered flag at Aintree 49.2 seconds ahead of second-placed John Surtees, who was packing the same Climax engine in his Lola.

● The British Grand Prix has been held at four different tracks over the years: Brooklands, Aintree, Brands Hatch and Silverstone have all hosted the race. Donington '93 doesn't count because it was classed as the European Grand Prix.

● Silverstone hosted the very first round of the Formula One World Championship in 1950. Alfa Romeo's Guiseppe Farina won it at an average speed of over 146mph. Just like today's competitors, he was running on Pirellis.

● Stuttering King George VI handed out the prizes in 1950, while Princess Diana gave Damon Hill the winner's trophy in 1994.

● Prince Harry will do the honours this year. Given that he's currently dating one of Jenson Button's former flames the podium ceremony could, potentially, be a bit awkward.
