Group Lotus takes on the Chinese market as Lotus China officially opens it’s doors in Beijing

Last week saw a major milestone event in Group Lotus’ history as the first Lotus showroom in China was declared officially open for business. The formal opening ceremony at the showroom in Beijing was overseen by senior representatives of Group Lotus and Lotus China alongside Clive Chapman, the son of Lotus Founder Colin Chapman.

China-based sports car enthusiasts had their appetites for the Lotus brand whetted with the first public unveiling of the Evora GTE Road Car and the F1-inspired customer race car, the T125 before being introduced to the rest of the current Lotus line-up. The Beijing Showroom features six models, the Elise R, Elise SC, Evora, Evora IPS, Exige S 240 and the Exige S 260.

Speaking at the launch Li-Chen Zhang, President and CEO of Lotus China said: "This is the first showroom that the Lotus brand has set up in China since entering the Chinese market on June 15 and it’s a very proud day for all of us who believe so strongly in the brand. We truly believe that the Chinese market will completely embrace the Lotus philosophy of performance through lightweight and innovation through clever design – we sold around 300 units before we even opened the showroom so the initial interest and orders put forward indicate that our faith in the brand is well placed."

Group Lotus Chief Executive Office Dany Bahar said: “East Asia and in particular China represents an interesting market for Lotus and this latest development is a crucial step in the strategic plan we have for expansion within this important region. We see many exciting opportunities for growth within the Chinese market and we could not ask for better partners than Lotus China to join us on this journey. The response we have had from China to the current and new Lotus range has been incredible particularly the demand for the Evora GTE Road Car – this activity confirms our suspicions that now is the perfect time to really push in this market.”

The showroom, situated in the fashionable Chaoyang district, also represents another key event in Lotus’ journey as it’s the first showroom in the world to adopt Group Lotus’ new corporate identity alongside a dedicated boutique for Lotus Originals. Covering a total area of 600m2, the uniquely designed showroom has two floors, the first is dedicated to the cars, sales and Lotus Originals with offices on the second.

A further ten showrooms are expected to be opened in China in 2012.

  • What is the point of a Lotus these days?

I have recently changed my Daily from a dirty diesel to an electric.  It struck me that the 0-60 times were almost identical, possibly quicker, to the Exige so my thought was, if comfortable family cars with suitcase room are now performing so well, are our cars becoming obsolete? Has the acceleration potential of EV’s made traditional sports cars meaningless? In an era where electric motor torque is rewriting the rules of straight‑line acceleration, it’s easy to forget what “fast” use

LOTUS Action Camera Mod for rear view mirror

Hi, my name is Marco and I'm from Liverpool, I'm new to this forum and new to Lotus. Towards the end of last year I started to get that itch of wanting a sporty fun car again (I had owned a couple of Mk4 Supras between 2000 & 2009) I was looking for a car that was not too big as it needed to fit into my narrow garage so I could hook it up to a trickle charger as it was not going to be a daily driver. I decided that an Elise would be perfect, after searching for months for the

Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)

Hi all as with most of my cars I thought I’d start a bit of a build thread. However unlike most cars which I bought and built up to be highly modified the plans for the lotus are quite different and so this will be more thread of its life in my ownership. I have also created a Facebook page called “Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)” containing images of its progress pre and post purchase. Newbie question

As the title suggests , a newbie query. I have just bought an S2 Elise , 2007 with the Toyota 1ZZ power unit in ‘ touring spec’. That means electric windows, a radio and , err, not sure what else. Anyway, that is not the subject of the query. The car is blue with a cream interior. The latter I don’t plan to keep. In fact , already bought some equivalent second hand door cards in black and am looking hard at a pair of Corbeau LE seats . So, first part of my query centres on those Corbeau seats. A
