I have just bought a 2000 S1 and the Rev Counter starts at 6,000 revs, does anyone know please if it's possible to reset it to start at zero or is it going to be a new unit, (the previous owner said it did it when he re-fitted the battery after charging) sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I had a look and couldn't find anything

When you switch on the ignition the Stack recalibrates needles to zero. This is the light juddering noise that the Stack makes as the needles are pushed against the end stops. If the Stack has any input while this is happening, it will recalibrate zero at that speed/revs. So if you happen to reset the ignition while the car is doing 30mph and 1500 RPM, these will be the new zero values. So at 30, the speedo says 60! A useful tip for getting spectacular 'how fast was I going' pics, but otherwise a pain.

Simply stopping and resetting the ignition a few times will eventually get the dials back at zero. A single recalibrate is often not enough, as it only seems to be able to reset about 10mph at a time.

I know this as one of my car's peculiar traits is that the Stack goes out of whack when it's subjected to fast changes in altitude. I noticed this first on a trip from North to South Wales through Snowdonia, and then last year on several alpine passes on the Stelvio trip. Some other S1s on that trip also had this problem.

I think this may be related to condensation, as it is often accompanied by a steamed up Stack glass. Once temperature/altitude is stable it all seems OK, once reset.

So it may be a case of QAFTDS (Quite A Few Do That Sir!)

My speedo is stuck at 30 and won't shift down no matter how many times ignition is reset. It goes up, so that is OK as you have to deduct 30, but it is annoying and Stack and Lotus had a big fallling out so neither will offer any help to sort it as I understand it. Units for the S2 do fit the S1 I hear, although not made by Stack. Suspect that would be costly though.

  • Spotted at British Motor Show

...does it count if you spot yourself? I joined the SELOC stand at the British Motor Show last week. There were half as many time machines* there as Lotuses! (Well I'm exaggerating actually because there was a Lotus Carlton on another stand and a 340R in the supercar section. Maybe next year I should cross link to the SELOC events page as it would be great to have a bit more of a showing and I know MLOC has some members a bit further south. Enjoyed having a bit of time this aftern

Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)

Hi all as with most of my cars I thought I’d start a bit of a build thread. However unlike most cars which I bought and built up to be highly modified the plans for the lotus are quite different and so this will be more thread of its life in my ownership. I have also created a Facebook page called “Toxic Green S-Cup - (Aka Grogu)” containing images of its progress pre and post purchase. Elise S2 111R MFRU multi function relay unit replacement

Hi Everyone, I need to replace the MFRU on my Elise 111R and I am looking for some advice please. Firstly, can this be done from above, or is it necessary to remove the under tray and do it from below? I am uncertain how much slack are in the connector leads. Also, should the unit simply slide up and off the mounting tab, or is it locked somehow, as mine won't budge. Is there a locking tab that needs to be deflected to unlock the unit. I can't find anything anywhere about thi
