Changing Discs and Pads

Replacing Discs

Most important tools:-

 

*Screwdriver [to lever the piston back in]

*Rubber mallet [to knock the old disk off - be careful to knock the disk all around to loosen not at one point as this could damage the hub]

*Copperslip! - [use this on everything - bolts, rear of disk that mates the hub, and back of disks to stop them squealing - you should get an anti squeal sticker to eliminate this though]

 

So very briefly:-

*Jack up car

*Take wheel off

*Undo the brake resivour cap

*[if doing rear disk take handbrake off]

*Remove springs, and pins

*Undo caliper bolts

*Pull out old pads

*Take caliper off and hang/rest in a safe place - not on brake line

*Undo allen key bolt on disk [you may or may not have these]

*Rubber mallet to loosen and remove disk

*Clean the hub surface [where disk meets - v important]

*Copperslip

*Put disk on making sure its flush!

*Reversal of refitting!

 

 

Fitting Brake Buffer Pads

 

 

This is where the anti rattle buffers go on the front pads mate. If the rear pads are rattling i'd check the retaining pins, the rears are different from the fronts and never heard of the buffers being needed on the rear pads before.

    What is the point of a Lotus these days?

    I have recently changed my Daily from a dirty diesel to an electric.  It struck me that the 0-60 times were almost identical, possibly quicker, to the Exige so my thought was, if comfortable family cars with suitcase room are now performing so well, are our cars becoming obsolete?     Adventures of an S1 Elise in Germany

    Some of you will know, but for the rest, I'll be working in Germany near Mannheim until end of 2026 with 75% of my time there, and 25% back home. As i fancy doing some different roads, and I've booked two weekend driving tours with Delightful Driving company (run by Elisa Artioli), on Thursday 10th July I'll be setting of in my S1 Elise, and 4 days later I plan to arrive at my apartment.
