It seems that a lot of the reliability problems experienced by the new teams of Formula One are linked with their transmission. As many of you know by now, Newbury based Xtrac company is currently supplying some of the new teams with the gearbox units for the 2010 F1 season, but their experience in the series is not that vast. Xtrac hasn't produced F1 transmissions since more than a decade – 1996 to be more exact – meaning their reliability is questionable to say the least. The teams that are now using Xtrac gearboxes are Lotus F1 Team and HRT F1, but it seems the former is planning to end that collaboration by mid-season. Taking the Vir…

Six months of very hard work finally came to as successful a conclusion as the team could have hoped for on Sunday afternoon in Bahrain, with both Lotus Racing cars finishing the race, Heikki in 15th and Jarno in 17th (provisional positions) in the opening round of the 2010 Formula One™ World Championship. Jarno Trulli (Lotus Racing chassis T127/3) “I made a good start and avoided the accident at the second corner but found myself in the gravel so at this stage I was nearly last, but then I started picking up pace and catching the people in front. The car was understeering quite a lot and I couldn’t really predict the balance so at the pitstop the team, who did a really …

I always knew it was the wrong choice, they should've signed Glock and Sutil perhaps then they couldve had a chance of a decent finish and a few points.

Formula One needs more overtaking and stronger rivalry between drivers to keep fans interested, according to Tony Fernandes, team principal of Lotus Racing. “There are going to be boring bits in every sport,” Fernandes said in an interview in Kuala Lumpur today. “Formula One needs more closer competition and more overtaking basically, and I think a few more personalities in the business, so a bit more rivalry.” Critics including Red Bull driver Mark Webber said last week’s season opener in Bahrain was short on entertainment even as television figures surged. The race at Sakhir saw a 40 percent increase from the 2009 race in key European markets, according to IFM Sports …

Jarno Trulli has backed up team principal Tony Fernandes' claim that the 'new' Lotus team can rise through the Formula One ranks and become a legitimate challenger for honours. The Italian's prophecy came despite the disappointment of retiring on the final lap of the team's debut in Bahrain, but after Lotus became the only one of the three new teams to get a car to the chequered flag, after Trulli's team-mate Heikki Kovalainen finished the 49 laps in 15th spot. While HRT's story has been well-documented following the problems that beset original entrant Campos Meta1, Lotus has less time than its direct rivals to pull its programme together but, just six months aft…

LONDON (Reuters) - Lotus are setting their sights on shaking up the Formula One establishment after finishing the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix as best of the new teams. "This is a great start. We've done the first massive step, we've now got to take some more," technical director Mike Gascoyne told Reuters after Finland's Heikki Kovalainen finished 15th and Italian Jarno Trulli 17th on Sunday. "For us, it's not about the new teams," he added. "It's now about looking at Toro Rosso or Sauber. They are the ones we've got to look at, close the gap and go racing." Gascoyne said the target, for a Malaysian-run team that in a former incarnation ranked as one of …

Lotus technical chief Mike Gascoyne has said he is 'very proud' of everyone at his team who helped the outfit deliver a race finish on its debut in Bahrain. Gascoyne has brought the Lotus name back into F1 with his new operation, and it achieved its ambitions by getting Heikki Kovalainen across the finish line - and Jarno Trulli classified as a finisher too. And with fellow new outfits Virgin Racing and HRT having both hit trouble with their cars, Gascoyne is delighted with the way things had turned out for his team. "As we said, it does what it says on the tin," he told AUTOSPORT. "We said we would be a professional team, we would turn up, we would be ready a…

1978 F1 world champion Mario Andretti reveals that he has been asked to play a role in the re-emergence of the Lotus marque. The combination of Mario Andretti and Lotus proved unstoppable in 1978, when the Italo-American claimed the marque's last Formula One world championship, and could be resurrected if the ambitious grand prix newcomer of the same name has anything to do with it. The 70-year old, in Bahrain for the 60th anniversary celebrations of the world championship, admitted that he had been approached about playing a part in the revival of the Lotus name in F1 - and conceded that he was tempted to explore the opportunity further. "I have been asked to be…

Lotus technical chief Mike Gascoyne said it was a day of mixed emotions for his team after its first qualifying session in Bahrain. Drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen qualified in 20th and 21st positions respectively, and the duo were outqualified by the Virgin of Timo Glock, who gave his team the best position for a new team today. Gascoyne admitted he was sorry to miss out on that achievement, but he was pleased with the team effort considering the short time it had to prepare for its first race. "It's a little bit mixed emotions today," said Gascoyne, "we wanted to be the best of the new teams, and we just missed out on that by a fraction, but as th…

I am getting more confused by the day. Twitter, news, flickr, come race with us, OMG could it be more complicated? NO! Mouse wheel scrolling would be nice on the site seeing as they have been around FOREVER! Worst site I have been on (and actually wanted to stay there because of the content) EVER. If it was not Lotus I would have left after about 3s but had to leave after about 60 as it was so irritating I would just be happy to be sat in front of the telly on Sunday with a Lotus shirt on but they have not even sorted that out.
