Jarno Trulli has had to acclimatise to life at the back with Lotus this season after years of chasing podiums with Toyota. But he stands by his team choice, and is confident that Lotus is in another league compared to its fellow newcomers. AUTOSPORT heard from the Italian in Malaysia. Q. Does this feel like a little bit of a home race for you? Jarno Trulli: It is actually! It is a home race - as we will have two races, this one and the British GP. A mixed day for Lotus Racing at the Melbourne Grand Prix saw Heikki Kovalainen finish the race in 13th place, once again ahead of the other new teams, but Jarno Trulli failed to make the start due to a hydraulics issue on the grid. Heikki Kovalainen (Lotus Cosworth T127-01): “I enjoyed it today, I had good fun out there. Our target was to finish the race and from the start we were quite comfortably ahead of the new teams. When Glock dropped I just focused on keeping up a decent rhythm, not making any mistakes and bringing the car home. The Finn was the fastest qualifier among the new teams' drivers today, taking 19th on the grid ahead of team-mate Jarno Trulli and the Virgins. Although still 2s off the pace of 18th-placed Vitaly Petrov's Renault, Kovalainen says his aim for the race is not just to beat his fellow newcomers, but to give the established squads a fright. "If I have a chance to attack at the start tomorrow, I'll have a go," he told AUTOSPORT. …
