Hi

My windscreen washers have stopped working. On the basis the fuse powers both the wiper and washer pump, with the wiper operating fine, it can’t be the fuse.

How easy it is to replace pump? Could it be anything else?

Thank you

It’ll be your pump. Mine did the same. It’s gets sludged up with crap which in turn blocks the filter on the pump. What car do you have?

It should be an easy fix then as the water pump is fixed to the bottle and the bottle is very easy to access. My Exige V6S water bottle has to be accessed from under the car!!!  Under tray off etc………….

Mine stopped working, it got blocked up in the non-return y-connector at the front end before it splits to go either way. It got clogged up with strange conjealed matter. Mine is toyota Exige. It was difficult to get to but works better now (although never was that powerfull). I took it off and flushed through with a solution of bleach. and cleaned out the Y-piece.

Having replaced the pump my washers still don’t work. I can hear the pump is working.

Any suggestions most welcome, please.

If the pump is working (really working, pull it and check) then you have a blockage.  Either it can't get water out of the tank (blocked filter) or it can't get it to the nozzles (blocked pipe, or more likely a junction or non-return valve).  Or a pipe may be off or broken in which case you have a puddle somewhere.

Thank you. How do you access the junction and no return value?

No guarantees on a hand-built car, but have a poke about in the front services compartment.  Should be in the tubing tucked under the front of the windscreen.

My NRV was fitted straight off the pump Most likely to be blocked at the nozzles if there has been rubbish in the tank, try and poke them with a needle or blow air down the opposite way.

As an aside, washer bottles that don't get used a lot, but have wash additive in them, especially winter strength mix, tend to gunk up with a sticky goo that can block the pump, pipes and jets.

On lighter use cars like some of ours that can be a problem, especially ones that usually only do fine weather driving, the washer fluid can be in there for a considerable time not being 'flushed out'

Definitely suffered from this when I bought my car.
