My S2 Elise shows 14.1 volts when its being charged. SWMBOs S1 shows 15.6 volts on a brand new battery. Both K Series Engines with identical chargers. Does this point to an earthing problem on the S1, if so, all suggestions as to where this fault may be are appreciated.

Thanks, Andrew

With no charger connected the battery voltage should be about 12.8 volts, above 12v. A charger may increase the voltage to charge the battery up to about 14.5. If there is short or current draw the voltage falls.  Smart chargers cycle the voltage, starting high to charge the battery then reducing to sustain the charge. 15+ volts is too high, check your charger.

Thanks for that matey. Wierdly when I put the same charger on my big old lump of a spare battery I keep for a back-up, it shows 13.4 volts, but on the S1 it shows 15.6 volts and the S2 14.4 volts. Oh the joys of plastic cars!

15.6 is much too high, could damage the battery. Try another charger. Also check the voltage with no charger but the engine running, should be a max of 13.5ish.
