emt Posted July 7, 2021 Posted July 7, 2021 Hi All Can anyone help with some advice to open the boot on my Elise S2 111S. The key turns as normal but the mechanism doesn't click when the key is turned fully nor the lid spring up. Symptoms seem to be the same as for Stig95 in this old post: https://www.midlandslotus.co.uk/forum/topic/63871-boot-release/ My first post here, so I know I'll need vetting first in view of the subject. Car is at home and in the garage, so no mad panic (yet). Mark
emt Posted July 15, 2021 Author Posted July 15, 2021 Update: By looking at how the catch mechanism works on another S2 with the engine cover open (thanks Mike), I eventually worked out how to get mine open. The spring had come off the white arm at the end of the lock barrel - that's the spring that pulls the short cable connected to the catch release. Having hooked it back on, I managed to get it to come off again by turning the key the wrong way in the lock. It looks like normally that would not rotate the arm - the tooth on the lock barrel moves along the slot in the arm, and the arm shouldn't turn. On mine, the tooth was sticking to the arm and turning it the wrong way towards the spring - which then pushed the spring hook out of the end of the arm. I cleaned up the slot and worked some silicon grease in there - now the arm won't rotate when the key is turned the wrong way, and the spring is staying put.
MrWill Posted July 16, 2021 Posted July 16, 2021 Top job 👍 Thanks for the photo and explanation. It's always satisfying to work through and resolve these little puzzles. Or in your case "get yourself out of a sticking situation" 😉
