Great for the endless train journeys work seems to give me....

considering buying one of those for christmas, my m8 has a jap import and the graphics look great.going to cost £179.99 in UK so maybe a bit pricey for a handheld console but its got good detailed graphics and smooth gameplay.Hows doom????? is it doom 1,2 or 3?

Just been having a conversation with my mate who says you can "backup" your games onto memory and play them from that "so you don't have to carry the originals with you" :P

AFAIK the UK release will ship with firmware 2.00 which doesnt allow you to run "backups" or doom/"homebrew" software. This only works on 1.50 or below. They are trying to get everyone to upgrade as 2.00 has a web browser (so what?). And i suspect they will release games that allegedly "require" 2.00 just to minimise the number of people with a machine capable of running pirate games. The upgrade is free, but i'm not running it! I like playing Doom!!! Darren, its any Doom you can get the .wad file for. i have doom 1 and i just downloaded the .wad from my old PC doom 2 and it worked first time!

I bought jap as i could get 1.50 firmware and if they ever release movies, it is Region 2 and the screen is supposedly better than the US import. games are region free AFAIK.

mine too, i got it working on my 6600, havent tried since i moved to 6680, the problem with phones is the controls werent designed with doom in mind !!

Bought a PSP on my last trip to the Land of the rising sun. Cost approx £90. :D

It is version 1.51 so I guess it will work with all the back-ups etc. It took about 30secs to get into english, just a shame the games are all in Japanese. Although they were quite cheap at about £20.

I've used it on a number of trips now and it's absolutely brilliant. At the same time I bought a couple of Nintendo DS's for the kids (£70 each);), and the PSP is miles better.

It's just a shame it will be so expensive in the UK as £180 is silly money.

I think I have a buyer (should know on Thurs) but........

If anyone on here is interested in a brand new, unopened US PSP Value Pack for £160 + postage; should the sale fall through- just let me know.

I bought 2 from the states a month ago- keeping one (because it's amazing!), selling the other.

Cheers,

Ian

darren - yeah it does mp3's although the player is a bit basic....

apparently games are region free. eg. i have a Jap console and can play US ridge racer....

its only movies it cares about, Jap is region 2 anyway so it doesnt matter! the Jap console can be set to english language throughout as well so you can read the text

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a PSP when they come out. One of you said you can watch movie on is. How does this work. Do you have to buy them in the new PSP format (just Ghostbusters and crap like that) or can you rip DVD's to it (like a regular MP4 ie link the PSP to your DVD player and play the DVD to it in real time)

How long does the battery last??

Cheers

2 option with films:

A) Buy them on UMD (Sony's little disc that goes in the PSP)

:) Rip your DVD's to your PC then use a free bit of software to encode in the proprietary format for the PSP (so, NO direct encoding of movies by the PSP I'm afraid)

Battery life:

MP3's only (screen off) about 8 hours

Decent game like Ridge Racer: 3.5-4.5 hours

Really great device

Version 2 firmware has internet browser- uses the built-in Wifi capability.
