Insurance, Driving In France & Temp Breakdown Cover

I'm taking the OH to France next week and I thought I'd better just check my insurance cover for the Honda. Although I have three days inclusive, we're off for four and a bit, so I clicked on the option to extend my cover. (I'm with Swift.) Website said they couldn't proceed so I sent them an email.

Turns out after my bump last November, they won't extend my Euro cover although the respondent did say my details had been forwarded to another team for confirmation.

Swift says I have two claims on the same day; does this mean there is a claim for damage to my car and a separate claim for the other vehicle involved?

I've emailed CCI to check my Elise is covered in Europe although Abby will struggled to pack for four days! Mind you, that's only an option if I get my indicator problem solved. Does anyone know if its possible to get short term breakdown cover?! (You know, just in case....)

So all in all, grrrrr! mad.gif

AA does temporary Breakdown cover for mainland.

Last time I checked, I ended taking the full year as I did a few trips...

Thanks Fentuz. I woudn't bother in this country, but the cost of being stuck abroad becomes rather more significant.

CCI have just told me I have 30 days cover for EU so I'm insured at least. Now to sort my indicators and convince Abby!

Thanks Steve. Unfortunately they only provide cover for cars up to eleven years old and my Elise is '99. I might give them a call just to enquire based on mileage... always worth a try.

(£63.27 after discount for 5 days cover from AA!)

ADAC then. Become a member and you're covered Europe wide. They get lots of positive feedback on Pistonheads, SELOC etc for being good and cheap compared with AA etc

CCI have offered me Euro breakdown cover for £57.50 for the year so if I need to, I'll go with that. However, I've just been on to Swift- someone helpful- who has said it is likely down to my two claims in November which he says are a mistake: there was only one claim. He is hopeful that this might redress the balance in which case we'll go in the Honda.

Well, Swift have been in touch and said they are 'in the process' of removing my duplicate claim. They can't extend my euro cover until the duplicate is removed. This might be done tomorrow but might not.

So it looks like I need to plan for using Elsie as if I HAVE to use her, I need to change my ferry reservation.

So, indicators are now sorted, breakdown cover is sorted. Can anyone think of anything else beyond the norm I should check before leaving? It's not the different country that bothers me, but the distance covered in one stint is more than she has done before. (That and getting Abby to down size her packing..!)
