Fuel Cap Surround

Have just purchased a black fuel cap surround for my S2 R from eliseparts.

Had a spare 30 mins on Saturday, so thought I would just have time to remove the 8 screws, and swap the existing one, for the new black one - how wrong could I be ?

No probs removing the 8 screws, but the existing one wont budge, almost as if its been stuck in place. Very wary about applying any leverage, as am convinced I will damage the paintwork.

Anyone else done this and found the right way to do it ?

Any help greatly appreciated please.

Use the tip of a screw driver wrapped in tape. The clam will flex it's held on by the cork backing of the filler surround and the o-ring around the filler. Take the cork backing off of the original and stick it on the new one with silicon and re-use the o-ring as well.

Your having better luck than me one of the heads came of of the countersunk screws. :(

They are hard to shift. The cork gasket appears to stick it in place. I had a game removing mine and the clam was off at the time. You just need to persevere and it will eventually come off.

I found gently prising it away with a plastic credit card worked and no harm to the paint

Sorted !

Many thanks for the help.

A combination of a credit card to protect the bodywork, and a very thin bladed screwdriver did the trick.

Happy Days
