can you buy the dash inserts for the elise from anywhere but elise parts, as for tweeter and dash inserts its about about 200 quid which i think is alot.

also i have a k&n induction kit, ive noticed that some kits are about 150quid how much louder are they? anyone got a sound clip?

Soups is right about the hurricane, worth every penny. Noise with the roof off sounds cool on mine. Probably revs a tiny bit better then the original filter but thats about it performance-wise on a standard engine me thinks.

If you've got a K&N I wouldn't bother with a Hurricane.  You'd be better off buying a decat pipe which gives more noise (about £30 on Ebay).

Or £20 from Dobbo - can bring on Sunday if you want one (got 2)

I've got a decat (and a hurricane) and you're welcome to have a listen - coming to the run on Sunday?

My De_Cat is on its way (£30 2nd hand), but I don't have a hurricane (Yet - but seriously thinking about it), and just have the standard exhaust (97 S1) - no plans to change the exhaust just yet - maybe next summer .

What sort of noise benefit will I get from

a) just the de_cat

or) de_cat + Hurricane

Cheers !

for tweeters, I would go with a nice set of seperates, and find a location for yourself. I dont really know where the speaker locations are in an elise (front footwell and behind the seats in S2, and just behind seats in S1?)

You dont need to drill holes and things with the new componenst, as most come with pods and things for surface mounting. I would think if you just have rear speaker holes then mount them above you shoulder at the back?.. Ideal position is infront of you and the same distance away from you as the mid cones so you dont get any time-lag, but thats all getting a bit serious unless you have a nice quiet arm-chair of a car.

Best benefit would be to fit a small active sub under/behind the seats, as it will bolster the bottom end considerably, which is the frequency range that typically gets cancelled out by driving/road noise.

In leicester I would recommend CEL Direct (near the dry dock/homebase) but get a copy of max power, as they will give a healthy discount on some products if you produce it and show their ad!..

You can get a nice set of components (with x-overs, whcih are important if you want decent sound quality) for about £50 upwards. As for the active subs, you can get some that take speaker level inputs for about £15 on ebay, but they are really muffled and sound crappy to me. Spend the extra cash and you can get a much better unit (around £50-£75?) I havent used these, but a mate has 2 in his smart car, and his new ones (about £80 each) are miles better than the cheap ones he had before (£15 each)

Im going to have to make a similar change soon when I loose my daily "armchair" and no longer have space for my 4x components, 12" sub and 2x amps, so would be interested to hear how your system works out for you...

hope some of that ranting helps!
