Daniel
Just took my car to a local peugeot dealer for a very overdue mot. It's passed everything except a track rod end. They're going to phone up the nearest dealer (Storm in Leicester) to get a price on one and then get it fitted. The free retest for the MOT is only till tomorrow end of day, so I might just get them to do the repair. Firstly, is it safe to let them do it? And secondly, do you know what i should expect to pay price wise for the part and labour? Thanks, Dan
chorton_1
Parts aren't expensive (c.£12 from Eliseparts) Wheel off Undo trackrod lock nut Undo trackrod nut Remove offending rod end. Refit in reverse order. 1/2 to 1 hour labour ?? You will probably need the tracking checked as well. 1/2 hour? Therefore your probably looking at around 1 and a bit hours of labour + £20 parts Certainly not a specialist job. As with everything you just need a trustworthy mechanic. Daniel
Thanks, hopefully the garage can get it from Storm and get it done tomorrow then, then I'll be legal for the run on Sunday

Rus
Storm gave me a track rod end that was longer than the one i took off my car. If they give you one of these then you'll need to take one of the locking nuts off of the track rod so the front wheels can be alligned. Think i took the thicker nut off of mine, Most cars only have one anyway so it shouldn't be a problem doing this. Russ
Daniel
Well the garage quoted me some silly price to do this tomorrow and I'm just going to have it done by them for the sake of the MOT. It'll teach me leaving things for the last minute as per usual! Thanks for the tips though guys.
dss123
Not a difficult job this one Dan, I did both mine just before my last MOT. took about an hour and cost about 20 quid. Need to carefully measure things up before and after to maintain the geo as best you can but worth getting tracking done after just to be sure. Bugs me that people take the piss when they know you are in between a rock and a hard place! Can't see why a garage would need to charge any more than 2 hours labour MAX plus parts - but there you go. Least she'll be back on the road soon!
