Itg Maxogen

I recently had an ITG Maxogen Induction kit fitted to my Elise 111R and thought I'd share the experience.

I bought it from PTP (in Leicester) with free delivery and had it fitted by the guys at Top Gear Automotive as I was due in for a service in any event. Having said this, the instructions did look very clear and simple to follow and I'm sure it wouldn't have been too difficult to DIY fit - the instructions said allow 2 hours.

Below pictures of the kit and when it has been fitted (I went for the aluminium (painted black) housing as opposed to carbon fibre as it was quite a bit cheaper):

In terms of performance gains, I don't think there is a particularly noticeable difference. Having said this, ITG have done tests to show gains of over 10bhp in the upper rev regions:

The biggest difference though is the noise. There is very little discernable difference on "low cam" except for a slightly (and I mean slightly - it's hardly noticeable) meatier note and a delightful "chooo" type noise when you blip the throttle changing down gears. I was actually a little disappointed driving home after having had it fitted (I was warming the engine and traffic didn't allow me to use the "high cam").

The real difference comes when the engine switches to "high cam" - the moment it does a new "level" of noise comes into play alongside the normal engine and exhaust noise. It's what can only be described as a "BBBBAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHH" - it's a wonderful noise (but quite difficult to describe)and it's quite nice that you only get it when using "high cam" so the car is still not so blaring for less vigorous / motorway use.

I can thoroughly recommend getting one to liven up the "high cam" switchover on the toyota 2ZZ-GE engine. I'm not quite sure how it would affect the 1ZZ-FE engine of the elise S, since it doesn't have this cam switchover.

I think you will find that your MAF is fitted incorrectly (according to ITG's instructions). It should fit on top as in this photo taken from ITG's website.........

You might want to check that the drain hole in the filter case is at the bottom too.

Thanks for the post Reg. Having had a shufty around under the bonnet I think the carbon fibre or exige model might be slightly different. The casing on the ally version doesn't have a drain hole (the casing isn't really flush so anything would probably drain through the gap between the cone and the filter housing).

I doubt whether the MAF sensor being slightly further round (having looked it is pretty much on the top - I think it was the angle of the photo) will matter but think I'll simply loosen the clip and twizzle it round.

Thanks for the post + love your two cars!!! - very co-ordinated.

All of the ITG's that I've seen fitted have had the logos inline as Reg says......

Guide here.

I'd ring/email ITG to see if the ali version is different, just for peace of mind,

E :)
