Never Rains But It Pours!

Well, I began the relocation 'thing' on Sunday afternoon, moving to Chichester from the Midlands. Since leaving home I have had some extreme weather conditions nonstop.

I left home as it was starting to sleet, this soon developed into rain down the M5. On the A417 and A419 it turned to snow and turned into a blizzard where you couldnt see much at all. A stop at membury services almost got me stranded because the car park, or ice rink, had huge lumps of ice that I had to very carefully manourver myself around to get out. People getting stuck everywhere.

Soon after leaving Membury it turned from snow to freezing rain so visibilty was reduced to zero again! Eventually I got to Chichester in heavy rain and had to unpack the car (which was pretty full) whilst it was throwing it down and pitch black!

So that was Sunday. Sunday night it pi$$ed down, Monday it did nothing but pi$$ down solidly, all day and all night. The roof was already saturated from being rained on on Sunday so the water was dripping in the front corners of the windows on both sides, giving me a puddle in my seat. The drive back to my bed-sit was terrible as you could hear the water lapping at the underside of the tray through the huge floods and I was expecting the water to come in the cockpit at any moment! Thankfully it didnt leak through the floor!

Tuesday, guess what, it was raining when I left for work! By mid-day it had finally stopped, and the forecast was sunny for the rest of the week! Yay! Upon finishing work on Tuesday, I opened the boot to put my laptop in only to find everything soaked through! Only a few things in there, but my running trainers were completely sodden. I went to Alfesco to buy some more towels got back home and took a good look inside the boot only to find the boot liner soaked and the heat insulation acting more as a sponge, and now steaming because of the heat from the exhaust evaporating the water within it and under it.

There was about 10mm of water just pooled up underneath heat proofing so I pulled it up a bit and toweled it dry. I couldn't get the thing out to make sure it was all dry, but that is probably just as well! My landlord took the boot liner off me to lay out to dry inside as I had bugger all space to swing a cat let alone splay out the interior of my car to dry! lol

This morning, Ice! Couldnt get into the car to start with as the locks were frozen, as was the boot so I could check on the heat insulation. Eventually managed to get in via the passenger door, only to find the windscreen had frozen on both sides. I got my trusty LCI membership card (which is acuatlly a windscreen scraper as well) and began the arduos task of clearing all the ice!

Once done, and enroute to work - the roads were not gritted so i was driving very cautiously, but still had three very scarey moments where the back end just stepped out completely. Almost hit one of those big electrical junction box things on the turn into the shipyard.

This afternoon the sun has come out finall, so my locks should have defrosted, but it is still bitterly cold, and tonight is likely to bring another frost! Can't wait!

Incidentally, the first thing my landlord said to me when I arrived on Sunday night was "Ah! Lots of trouble, usually serious!" And it has been nothing but ever since! Jinxed!

Do you get the feeling someone is trying to tell me something??

I miss my garage! :sniper:

From the sound of it, I'd buy a local paper and see if there are some garages to rent, or if someone is renting one out at their house, for the cost of a local paper may be worth a try.

Good luck with the new job, I'm based in the car industry in Birmingham so have been keeping an eye on things just in case, but I'm hoping that I won't have to go looking...............

I'm disappointed Rich! You should do that North Wales route me and Jon did a couple of weeks ago! SOO much fun! By the way, completely off topic, are you gonna be at Doni on March 15th?

Good idea with the garage. I have started looking for somewhere to rent (house or flat) with a garage aswell, but that would be a good in between.Edit: Although, I do need the car to get to work so it would have to be very local to where I live. Will investigate more. :sniper:
