Oil Advice And Recommendations Here

Hi I have a s1 111s with standard vvc k series engine on approx 25000. covering about 5000 miles a year with a few track days. No idea what the car has run on in past but last 3000 miles it has been running on shell helix fully synthetic 5w40, what would you recommend for the future? Thanks

A 5w-40 is the right grade

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Gulf Formula G, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives and are comparable to the Shell Helix.

I have been telling friends about your advice and the website, and there is one friend in particular who was interested in some advice.

 

He has a 1999 BMW Z3 2.8 and also a 2002 BMW Z3 M roadster with the S54 3.2 engine.

 

What would be the best engine oil he could get for them?

Your friend needs an oil that meets the BMW LL98,LL01 or LL04 specification in the 2.8 . Our selection can be found through the links below

The oils are all good oils as they need to be to meet the BMW specifications, so take your friend can pick based on any price/brand preference.

 

The 3.2 needs the Castrol Edge 10w-60
