Hi,

Just wondering what you'd recommend for:

55 Plate Yaris D4D (1.4 Turbo Diesel) - Mainly used for short commutes and the odd longer run.

55 Plate 111R - Mainly used for 15-20+ mile runs at least, driven in a err.. spirited fashion, not currently tracked. (I'm thinking Motul 8100 5W40)

Cheers,

Who supplies Halfords with their oil as with their trade card can get 5litres of fully synthetic 5W 40 for £24 - is it a bargain or poor oil?

For an unmodified road car it would be fine, a modded or track car......don't bother!

£24 makes it cheap and cheap is only a compromise in quality, there are no free lunches with Halfords.

Cheers

I noticed you had already given advice to a guy with the same car as me earlier in this thread. But I just wondered if my circumstances changed your opinion in any way?

Car is a Elise Sport 160

Currently on 72k miles

Doing about 5000 miles a year with a few track days included.

Just incase you did not know and if it makes any difference, the sport 160 comes standard with an air to oil cooler.

Cheers!

Hi

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic and you will find those through the link below.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Gulf Formula G, Fuchs Supersyn and Mobil Synt S are good, cheaper alternatives.

Cheers

I've ordered some of your oil this morning, 5w 40 Castrol edge. I thought it would be wise to change my oil a little early after 9 months regular use then my track day last week.

I was considering the silkolene Pro S but my service is due in 3 months so I went for something well priced but still good (hopefully).

Cheers

Hi Phil

The Edge 5w-40 is a really good oil and will be absolutely fine in your car. The Pro S is the next step up, but for normal use, I doubt you'd notice a difference.

Cheers

Tim
