If anyone knows i'll be greatful for any info !!! Cheers Paul P.s. What do u think of my Deal £9k Cash in Deep purple hard top, tracker, only 28k miles, Kenwood Cd player and the £3.5k Engine upgrade with £2k seats.... I thought it was a awesome price personnally!!
Mr_Belowski Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Nice ride Sounds like a good price to me, but I know nowt about the B&C engine conversion. The Sport 160 has better suspension and maybe one or two other tweaks but other than that I can't comment on possible differences. But who cares? You just bought an ace car for what looks like a very good price, especially with the hard top. Cool colour too Now put that hard top in the corner of the garage where it belongs and go enjoy the winter sunshine with the roof off Oh, and welcome to Mloc
chorton_1 Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Looks a nice car and sounds like a good deal. From what I've read, the Bell & Covill 160 was never advertised as actually producing 160bhp, although the head work was obviously an improvement over a std 118bhp model. The Lotus 160 came with different bits and bobs depending on which variant you bought, including spoiler, Victory alloy wheels, lowered sports suspension, alacantra interior, optional close ratio box etc so they command much more of a premium. As I said above, your car looks very good and excellent value for money. Performance and options-wise it is mid-way between a std car and an official 160.
Paul1982 Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Cheers Mr Belowski thx – well this weather is really peein me off lol so I am still looking forward 2 seein a bit of sunshine lol – but look like I might b waiting a while yet Hi Cholton 1 – well the gear box has been changed from the standard from what B&C Told me when I phoned them… They said it was 162bhp and a lot more torque than the Elise 160 aswel…. Its really is a fast motor…. Oh and yeah I do have the alacantra interior in there awel. I agree about the suspension though I think I might need upgrading – but I aint going 2 be tracking it as its my day 2 day car believe it or not hehe And I an looking into getting a Spoiler aswel as when braking at high speed (140mph) the backend feels very unstable and I really do need 2 keep it down!! And yes it does do 140mhp and more but I sh*t out lol as that ridiculous in an Elise hehe

Paul1982 Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Oh yeah and my friend down Longlife Exhausts had a look at it and showed me that the Janspeed upgrade exhaust thats on there is not a free flowing exhaust and is takin up some of the power So at the mo i have put a De-cat pipe in (feels loads better already) and its going 2 cost me £380 for a full free flowing system increasing the bhp again
Fiona Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 B & C admitted on the BC BBS that the 160 was a load of marketing puff and didn't equate to horsepower. Good marketing, tho. If it you really need to know - put it on a Dyno.
chorton_1 Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 The Lotus 160 came with an Alacantra covered steering wheel as part of the interior too (which doesn't look like yours does). I think cross drilled disks were included too? Given that you say yours has the close ratio box, I'd say you still definitely picked up a good deal. Oh, and welcome to MLOC!

Mr_Belowski Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 £380 for a different exhaust isn't money well spend IMO, and will only free up 1 or 2 horses. You'd be better off saving a bit more up and upgrading or refreshing the suspension, or better yet spend the money on a driver training day Even the standard S1 has got plent of grunt
Phil.S Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 What do u think of my Deal £9k Cash in Deep purple hard top, tracker, only 28k miles, Kenwood Cd player and the £3.5k Engine upgrade with £2k seats.... I thought it was a awesome price personnally!! What a bargain. It looks awesome.
Paul1982 Posted November 11, 2005 Author Posted November 11, 2005 Yeah I seen the alacantra steering wheels and they look very nice but yeah mine doesn't have 1 And my Disc's r thought Aluminium ones which I was going 2 change but was advised not 2 as the Ali ones (surposivaly) don’t ware down and should last 4ever?? Not sure how true that is.... I raced and e36 m3 the other day on a dual carriageway and there was lots of straights and 1 or 2 roundabouts and I pulled a lead of around 60 meters before I put my brakes on as it was getting 2 dangerous cos of the top end problems So it does have some power and I cant see my car being less than 160 bhp !!! Sorry Chorlon_1 I cant see that link u added as u need 2 b a member
Mr_Belowski Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 It's forum thread with 4 or 5 B&C160 conversion owners discussing rolling road results for their cars. Seems the 160 conversion gives in the region of 135-140 bhp. Which isn't what they advertise, but is still plenty of power in a light early Elise. Seems like the exhaust manifold and ECU map are the two bits still needed to gain the extra grunt. If it were mine, I'd leave it as it is. My 111s has 143bhp and a close ratio box (same as yours I guess) and it goes like sh!t of a shovel. Any more and I've have crashed it 10 times over by now As for the brakes, be careful in the wet - apparently they're great in the dry but not too good in the wet. Light and last for ages tho Get yourself registered on Seloc. It's a bit bad tempered at times, but pretty much any question you might have will have been anwsered on there already so it's easy to search for any thing you need to know. And yr txt spk hrts mi i's
