Hey people. I'm all new to this place and can't find any information on how to change headlight bulbs on a Mk1 elise?

I have just purchased some new Silver Star bulbs from www.startledrabbit.com but dont really know how to put them in.

I have found the rubber covers in the wheel arches. How do you get the bulbs out after getting the rubber cover off??? Has anyone done this???? I have been told that the Startled Rabbit (Osram) Silver Star bulbs rock!!! does anyone have comments on them??

Hope someone can help as I'm dieing to get them in grrrrrr.

I am also thinking about getting some DIADEM bulbs when I change my indicator covers. I just need to find a supplier for clear indicator covers for the front so if anyone can help with that to???

Hope to hear from someone!

Mike

just take the rubber covers off and feel for the back of the bulb. Its held in with some 'squeeze' clips. Push them outwards to unlock the bulb and pull it out easy.

I did it by just fiddling around and finding out how they were held in with my hands.

you might find it easier to pull the wheel arch liner out a little bit, you should then be able to see what youre doing a bit better

Yes, wheel arch liner is easier. My (Nitron lowered) S1 needs me to take the wheel off !!!!

If you're going above 65w dipped beam you should think about uprating the wiring as well, which is a clam-off job.

I tried Philips Blue, and then some other Philips "improvement".

In the end I've fitted 100w (dipped) / 55w (main, but it's on top of the 100w dipped) (illegal) ones from Halfords.

Smoked or clear indicators - Eliseparts. They come with Diadem bulbs. The front indicators apparently can be done without the clam off, but it's hard work.

i used osram silverstars. defo improvement over standard but still not on par with the 'cut a light line' of an s2000 or other modern day xenon car.

Think its cos the car is so low.

Chris..what bulbs do you have ? not bothered about legality but am about front clam setting on fire  Are your ones safe ? if so give me a model no. , price and level of safety !!

cheers

Jon,

Just went to Halfords and went for the 100w/55w "not for road use" bulbs.

About £3.50 each (honestly !)

No idea about "level of safety" but I did upgrade the wiring to take the extra current whilst the clam was off last month

Sounds like a lot of hard work to change the indicaters on the front? Do you really need to take the front clam off or? How do they come off? Can you tell I have only just got my elise!

I believe it is doable without removing the clam, but not without losing loads of knuckle skin !

Another joint between the wrist and elbow would also be helpful :(

Well I'll get some ordered and maybe get a large hammer to put that extra joint in my arm. Sure it will hurt but it will be worth it.
