Rear Spoiler..

I have seen quite a few earlier cars with the rear spoiler fitted. Im guessing this was an option, as there doesnt seem to be anything to distinguish which models got it as far as I can see..

Anyone know how these come off? And do they leave holes and things in the bodywork?... IM not massively keen on them, but it wouldnt put me off a good car, esp if easilly removed!

They were actually a delete option on 111s & 160 but few people had the taste to delete them.

IMO they are utterly hideous and make the rear end far too busy. By all accounts, do little or nothing in reducing lift at the rear. If you have to have a spoiler, get a proper aerofoil section standing clear of the deck. The Exige (ne Motorsport Elise) was designed as a high-downforce derivative and its spoilers actually work.

Do work actually Graeme!

Remember why the elise rear end ended up with the lip spoiler in the first place!

No my point was I dont like them... I think the elise has one of the best rear ends outside of a kylie calendar, and agree they seem to clutter the look of the back up

My question was really if I found a good car that had one fitted, would it be easy to remove, although it sounds like the answer would be "yes but would leave big holes" so think I'll look for a car without one!..

I assumed they were an option on all cars, just because Ive seen a few for sale with them fitted, however werent being sold as any particular model (ie 111s, 111r, 160, etc...) so fittment didnt seem to follow any particular pattern

Oh dear

Try CHAV.com or check what was available when the vehicle was new.

Sure you didn't mean to piss a whole bunch of owners off, but suspect you just did.

Don't worry old son, when you learn how the car works, you'll wish you hadn't posted this.

Only my view of course, and WTF do I know eh Graeme ?

Bob

<EDIT>

Sorry forgot to add, too busy working out if a larger Chargecooler or Chryo is need on a Turbo Esprit

Bob thats gorgeous..WITHOUT the windscreen sticker

Graeme..thats a bit harsh mate ! the spoiler isn't exactly IN YER FACE. its a subtle add on which some people like..some people dont.

i personally don't mind it. neither here nor there for me.

and yes..will leave holes...raisers come through the holes in the rear clam.

111s owners can get higher raisers from eliseparts if they want the 160 height which is higher. totally against the rules tho :)

I LIKE the spoiler on your new one Jon! Sorry if I offended those spoiler-wearers but I'm only expressing my opinion. And it appears I'm not the only one...

111s came with the lip on top of the std raised edge. S160had same profile but mounted on raiser blocks, so even more of a mess out back...

Best performance derivative which didn't come with a spoiler as standard: Sport 135:

Ported head (135bhp - in reality over 140), X-drilled brake discs, close ratio gearbox, Janspeed exhaust, headlamp cowls, sports seats. Only 85 made between 98/99 in unique Quicksilver colour. Many (most?) got ordered with the factory hardtop as well. Quite sought after.

In fact, Ben, you were sat in one last Sunday!

One think i have noticed with the spolier - it is very colour dependant. It seems to suit darker cars more - IMHO.

That said, i might get one now - just to annoy Graeme and make it even more tricky to get in the boot

I wasnt meaning to piss anyone off with my comments, just not really my cup of tea.. Agree about the colour thing; seems to look better on some coloured cars than others

b :)

ps.. sorry about the open can of worms!

Yeah, we're all buddies on here :D Debates are almost always healthy!

I agree with Bob, (great colour BTW!)

I think the 111s spoiler is a nice subtle addition that enhances the overall look of the Liz and it just one of the refinements that sets the S1 111s apart as the future "classic Lotus Elise" (running for cover now!)

Could probably live without the pretend carbon fibre dash though!
