Early Disappointment For Taku In Kentucky

Takuma Sato endured a disappointing run in the latest round of the IndyCar Series after being forced to retire on the opening lap of Saturday night's Kentucky Indy 300.

The former F1 race was chasing his first oval top-ten in the race having shown impressive speed during his debut season at the wheel of the #5 Lotus-KV Racing Technology entry.

Taku qualified in 14th place at the high-speed 1.5-mile oval but his hopes of a top ten finish were ended prematurely when the Japanese racer slid into the wall on the opening lap and was forced to retire.

Taku will now seek to put the disappointment behind him as he turns his focus to his home round of the season at the Twin Ring Motegi on 19 September.

“The race started well and my car felt good. But then suddenly the back end came around in turn three,” he said. “The car started to slide so quickly and I couldn't do anything at that point.

“It is obviously very disappointing as we were trying to carry good momentum into Motegi.”
