Bryan Herta Autosport, which won this year's Indianapolis 500 with the late Dan Wheldon, and HVM are reportedly among the teams in contention to land a factory deal with Lotus when the manufacturer joins the IZOD IndyCar Series next season. AUTOSPORT reports that five teams are in negotiations to use the British sports car maker's new Judd-built turbo engine, but that Bryan Herta's and Keith Wiggins' teams are best poised to take over the official role previously held by KV Racing Technology. Former race driver Michael Shank has announced that his GRAND-AM racing team will be joining the line-up of the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2012 - and that it will have a Lotus engine providing the power. The 2011 Indy Car finale was red flagged and finally cancelled after a horrendous multi-car pile up on Lap 11 resulted in the tragic death of 2005 champion and father of two, Dan Wheldon. The incident was triggered at Turn 2 when light contact between James Hinchcliffe and Wade Cunningham sent the latter spinning across the track, causing a chain reaction.
